Any suggestions on where to have a radiator re-cored ?
Here's the deal ..........
In august I converted my 88 to fuel injection and built a stroker , it's got a couple thousand km's on it now. Normally I run a 195 thermostat year round , earlier this year , after a particularily bad mud caking I got a little aggressive with my pressure washer and messed up the cooling fins in the rad a little bit , resulting in a slight restriction of airflow. Once the stroker was in I decided to go with a 180 thermostat for break in after hearing these stroker 4.0's run a little on the warm side. It does run a bit warmer than the old 4.2 without a doubt , almost excessive on a hot summer day , in traffic or on the highway in the hammer down lane. What's in it now for a radiator is a not very old , two core Rad I bought at a local parts store but as mentioned , the air flow has been compromised.
Here's what I'd like to do ............
Have this radiator re-cored to a three row core .
Go back to the 195 thermostat I normally would be running
At the same time , replace the noisy heater motor that is driving me nuts ( got one already )
I'd like to know where to have the radiator work done , and support a shop that supports us , someplace that is 4wd friendly . Not looking for the "cheapest" place or to get a low buck cheapo patch job , I don't mind paying more for quality work or parts either , I NEVER look for the cheapest stuff , it's gotta be good quality.
I havn't had a radiator done for years , finding it's easier to just buy a new one , in this case , I'm not aware that an over the counter three core radiator for a YJ can be bought , without special ordering one.
