Title: Good air compressors?
Post by: dubbleJs on December 12, 2006, 11:16:52 PM
Im looking into getting a compressor to run impact guns, ratchets etc.

http://www.sears.ca/gp/product/B000HTVQPM/sr=1-4/qid=1165990360/ref=sr_1_4/104-1396274-9411906?ie=UTF8&searsBrand=core&mqnodeid=16365651

I found this Craftsman one on sale, 33 gallon max 150psi, 5.5 scfm @ 90psi. Who is running a similar compressor with an impact, and is it sufficient?

Also, any pro's or con's of oil and nonoil?

Impact guns draw a medium amount of air, but air ratchets are pigs, so I am sure compressor will be fine for an impact.  Plus I think impact are usually around 4.5 scfm @ 90 psi

I would look for one with a higher CFM than that.  Ideally you should shoot for 10 or so if you plan on using it much.  Mine's a 6.5 and with the impact it runs quite a bit and using a grinder is almost impossible.  Buy a bigger one and be done with it.

Get an oil filled to keep the noise down.  They last longer and are far quieter than the same size oiless compressor.  If you have an oiless you will have to wear earplugs the whole time you're in the garage.  Trust me, mines so loud I can hardly stand it. ...Steve

Ok thanks for the info guys, I did hear the oilless ones were very loud, kindof a turn off..

I'll go take a look at this costco one, sounds like a great deal, only 50 bucks more than the craftsman. Do you know who its made by?

WHen did you see that one there?? I was at costco today looking and there is only a 25gal and an 80gal...

I hope to get one asap looks like the craftsman is the best deal so far, are the oilless ones excessively louder than the oil ones?

Milan-thanks, ill keep that in mind.

Things come and go there. So it may not be there now. who knows.
