Cut the cat and muffler off my '05 Rubicon today...........installed a Flowmaster 50 series. SOUNDS awsome ( to me anyhow ) Made up a set of flanges so if need be ,I could replace all the stock pieces in a matter of an hour or less. Thought I would keep the stock stuff for hunting season for stealth mode.............but when I do the tummy tuck I don't think the stock @#$$%@ will fit anyhow
For those interested, at idle slight burble, part and half to full sound pretty good ( not raunchy ) and on the highway at cruise......even with the top down, can't even hear it !!! Engine seems to idle smoother as well, as an added bonus !!! 8)
Cost for project Flowmaster 50 series $125......flanges and S/S pipe (FREEBIE) Time ...4.5 hours for fit up and welding.
Pleasing sound to ears and brain.........PRICELESS 8)

Sheesh... I'm always 2 steps behind when it comes to mods Rubi
Exhaust mods are definitely on my todo list... Now that the TJ looks meaner I want it to sound a bit meaner too. Looking forward to seeing/hearing the new muffler!
-
same here .. I'll have to catch up to you sometime over this weekend and take a look/listen .. time to replace the system on my YJ .. it needs a little more growl
-
did the same thing to mine last year ,,not a flowmaster though,,like it a lot
-
what was the part number of the muffler? do you have specs? inlet dia. outlet dia., lenght? :D
-
dont know took mine to minute muffler
-
nice. I've been plannin to do this eventually too. Gotta wait until something brakes first.
Any plans on replacin the headers? I have heard some before and after clips on header job and it sounds amazing.
-
maybe when its off warrenty
-
I have not seen a listing for headers for an '05 yet.........THREE O2 sensors on this thing  ...and for the $750 -$800 I'll just stick with the factory manifold unless it ends up cracking in the future.

Hey Rubi... that url is for a fluid flow analysis software... Flow master mufflers is: http://www.flowmastermufflers.com
-
 U R ryte
-
Sound is great, but have you noticed a performance or mpg improvement ?
-
What did you do about the O2 sensors after the convertor.... I thought they had to stay, and therefore could not cut the cat out...?
-
Oops
-
on the newer ones there is no o2 sensor after the cat by the muffler ,,,only on the manifold
-
4 count em 4 - O2 sensors, ....2 cats directly off the exhaust manifold, 2 sensors above and 2 sensors below, making for 3 CATS TOTAL. One had to go  I like it, sounds good, and I flanged the stock unit so as I can replace it during hunting season 8)

Hey man - sorta off topic as for the muffler, but i have ask - when you go hunting, have you devised a good way to get your animal home in your Jeep, or do you normally just go out with someone who has access to a pick-up. I've always hunted with people with trucks, but am trying to devise other options now that I have relocated to Alberta.

used a roof rack last year ,,,little hard to get it up there md leaaves a bloody mess on the roof and windows,,,,this year i will be using a trailer
-
YUP...same as Black rube. Trailer for the quad and Moose/Elk/deer or what ever else happens along the way !! Couple of years ago a buddy of mine, had to quarter up a moose and bring it out in the back of his Jeep, and it still smells like moose whenever it gets wet or the weather gets really hot
-
 - I am imagining your bud's Jeep smelling like moose on a hot summer day. Also, good suggestions guys! At first I was thinking of just getting a roof rack, but am now thinking a small trailer just makes much more sense. The big plus being that when you aren't hunting, they are still really useful for getting stuff around.[/i]

Space is at such a premium in a Jeep.....I use my trailer whenever we go camping. So much easier to load everything in there instead of trying to cram it all into the rear.
