Title: I'm stalling at lights
Post by: CJ-7 on July 15, 2005, 09:13:37 AM
Ok just got everything fixxed on the cj.

Then,,,,,,,,,,,

Engine 2.5l   4 cyl  carb   manual   amc

Yesterday when I got home the jeeps idle was off. Sounded like it was missing.

So today I replaced the dist cap ... rotor.....fuel filter......plugs
And it is still doing the same thing. Rough idle and stalling. It runs ok when the gas is applied. Idle not s good  :(

A few guys here at work suggested :
-vacuum leak
- but one was saying there might be some problems in the distributor itself.

Not sure where to start..........................    please help
Title: Idle problem

My 4.2 would do the same thing.  The idle jet was plugged in mine.  If your carb is anything like the one I had just remove the idle jets from the carb and clean them out.  This should solve the problem.

Also check for a sticky float (tap the carb with nylon hammer or screwdriver end) or possibly fuel pressure problem??

K dudes!!!!!!

Took it in for a dia.    He said is is def the carb. Internals are screwed somehow!!

Anyways i was wondering if there was an aftermarket one I could throw on? I do not know much about carbs but I know mine is old and prob. lacking power because of it. He adjusted it so it runs fine but says that I should get a rebuild or new one.

Thank you to all who helped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd look into getting a new edelbrock carb.  I just got one installed on my 360 AMC, had some troubles at the start, similar to yours, but after a quick tune up, new plugs, pcv valve and dsitributor cap, it's running nice and smooth.
