Hey y'all, i've contracted some weird ticking oin the old 4.2 and i'm starting to think the girl is on her last legs. i've been looking around at swapping an engine, and have came across golen's 4.6 stroker a few times and am interested, but have a few questions...is this just a 4.2 stroked out? has anybody run this in their rigs? are the performance numbers accurate (260 hp@ 5000, 295 lb/ft@4000)? howz the drivability? and the biggie---
can an avenger jeep supercharger be fit to it?
any help would certainly be appreciated!

its 4.0 stroked with a 4.2 crank and other stuff.
You could stick a avenger on it.

I would look into an avenger on a stroker a lot more because I believe that stroker already requires premium gas and by adding a supercharger you might be going overboard on the compression and cause some issues.
Plus I would not recommend a supercharge on a trail rig. We had a guy last year out at apex and he almost ran out of fuel on the trail when the rest of us maybe burner 1/8 to 1/4 of a tank.

this isn't gunna be my trail rig...i'm gunna be re-painting and pulling the engine in my dd prittay quick, this and the avenger'll go into that...just wanna make more power to be able to pass on the deerfoot without having my foot to the floor, i'm also going to be swapping the transmissions out from a 3 speed to a 4, if anyone's got one of those, i'll be happy to take it off of your hands too...
thanx

I just put the avenger on my 4 banger. From what it does on that motor, i would not think you need to do BOTH a stroker and a blower.

Man my 4.0L basically stock has more than enough power to pass people on the foot with 33s and 4.10s. I can get up to 130-140 km/h on the highway not too bad. It comes down to more than just the engine, as you can have all the power you want but if you don't have the right tranny or gears in your axles it will still suck ballz. I don't think premium gas would be able to handle a stroker and blower, the compression would be too high
One or the other would be plenty, or save all that money and just put a new cam with high flow exhaust and call it a day.

see, that's the thing, i've got the 4.2, it's on it's last legs, i've got the t-150, which practically limits me to about 75mph, and i don't even wanna take it there, because at 60, the thing is screaming at me  i bet the old 4.2's got tons of power still, but why risk it? 260 horses would be plenty anyways, and it'd be a comparable cost to get my old 4.2 pulled and rebuilt, this way, i have it around if i ever want to put it back to stock...so i go with the 4.6 stroker and a muncie 4 speed. i was just throwing out there, the idea of putting an avenger onto it...
for all of you comp guys...it's only 9.1:1, nearly the same as my old 4.2

You would have to pony up for the Hesco MPI injection kit to mate up with the supercharger.
Then you would want Golan to dummy down the compression to under 8.8
Then avenger, or Ken bell tunes your PCM to match your motor.
Extreme of extreme hesco pushed around 400hp and 650ft lbs out of a 4.7 stroker with a blower on it.
Pretty rank.

cool, so instead of charging it, i'll spring for an extra nice paintjob, an intake, motorcraft carb and a header...thanx guys

If you're the do it yourselfer type...hang on a minute...got a link for you somewhere for paint.

Keep reading until you get about halfway down. If you want to contact the guy who painted the Charger, I think he emailed me back within a day with lots of info. :)

ugh, another summer project woot, wonder if they make deep forest green.

Do the stroker. It's easy and works awesome.
I have to run premium in mine as c/r is 9.7:1. I am probably going to take mine apart this winter and zero deck the block and open the combustion chamber to drop the c/r and also get some quench back to get rid of the detonation. I also want to put a bigger cam in. Already did the bigger throttle body. If you need help with wiring the EFI, I took good notes on that too.

Like I said, depends on whether you wanted to do it yourself or get it done professionally. :)
