I was just looking for some information on cheap lifts.
I have a 2.5" Lift on my 91 YJ and I wanna put a cheap lift
on it so i can put 33's on it buy may long. I am eventually going
to put a RE 4.5" Lift on it in the late summer but i don't have the
flow right now.
I was wondering what i should go with? either a 1 1/4" shackle lift
or a 1 1/4" body lift. I would really like to go shackle so then my skid plate
is a bit higher. But the question is do I need anything else other
that the new shackles? Do i need a new pitman arm, longer swaybar end links,
break lines, longer shocks because the lift on the jeep will be over 3.5.
Just wondering for any opionions on the shackle lift on top of the lift
I have already.
Thx

I would wait and get the RE4.5 kit.
If you add more lift with the shackles I would guess that you need longer brake lines. I have a 2.5" lift and my stock brake lines are just long enough now. Do you have any extra droop in your current shocks? Don't know about the pitman arm.

ya i got the rancho RS 5000 shocks so i think I can stretch a little extra out of them cuz the lift will end up only being .5" more with the shackle lift. I believe the pitman arm will be fine and I can always get longer brake lines for 100 bucks.
Is it possible to bolt on the new shackles and just go?

If your lift is only 0.5" higher you might not need to do much. You could get the shackles, install them and then test each corner for "full stuff" and "full droop" to see if there are any issues with tire/tub clearance (will need the 33" tires), brake line length, and shock length. Then a test drive to check for driveline vibrations and steering issues. I suspect that with only 0.5" additional lift you may have problems clearing the 33"s. My mechanical/suspension experience is iffy at best  so there are far better sources of info.
The RE 4.5" kit will include everything needed and you save the cost of the parts you might buy now and remove when you get what you really want.

I recommend the body lift. It opens a lot of future tuck mods, gives true tire to body clearence, raises a smaller percentage to body weight for better center of gravity, and you can leave it in when you do future suspension setups.
The addition of the 33's alone will get your skid up a bit, and if you ever get a CV, you have a lot of room to tummy tuck a flatter belly skid down the road.
my 2 cents
good luck

To clear 33s you should add a 1" BL and 1" shackle lift. I did that to mine and cost me under $200, but I got the BL used. On a YJ you need a minimum of 4".

thx for all the info. I am going to reseach it some more but I might just wait and buy the RE 4.5"
