Title: Manual Transmission fluid??
Post by: shibby on January 15, 2007, 12:29:38 PM
I'm looking to change out my transmission fluid. I have the NV3550 transmission. Tj is at 55K now and I don't agree with the manual where it says that it never needs to be changed.

Dealer specifies Mopar Manual Transmission Fluid - Part #04874464

Though I've also heard glowing reviews for Royal Purple's Syncromax fluid. Their website lists it as an alternative for the NV3550.

Anyone around here use it, if so any pros/cons with it? Warranty issues?

Also, what is the original colour of the Mopar transmission fluid. Just so I have an idea what this ugly used fluid used to look like.

Gold like motor oil.

I would stick with stock fluid if it were me. I personally dont beleive in royal purple hype, and the stock fluid has never done me wrong.

Gold eh?
Well I'm glad I decided to change it out then, as the stuff that came out was a milky brownish green, with a nice metalic sheen to it.

Sorry for the bit of a hijack, but does the NV3550 take more of an ATF than standard gear oil (75w90 GL-5)?

It uses a "special" Mopar only fluid.

I researched this extensively years ago (around 2001) and it turned out it was Texaco 5W30 engine oil.
At the time, it was confirmed via email from New Venture Gear that it was that specific engine oil.
