Read the link please http://tucson.craigslist.org/car/266830970.html
and does anyone think this story is legit. I don't think it's a throwout bearing. I think it's a hydraulic issue, but is this the right trans. for this jeep. I'd rather find something original than a hack job. Thanks guys. Stay warm. We actually got snow in Tucson for the first time in 20 years. Later.

The AX15 is the 5 speed tranny behind the mid-later 4.0L YJ's and TJ's up to 1999.
The early YJ's came with a junk Peugot tranny. I'm not sure what year the change was but I know it was right around 89-90

It also can behind the 4.0L in the Cherokees when it was introduced in about '87-88. In about '93, the slave was switched to external

Could be a throw-out bearing as it would be internal and could be leaking fluid, or could be the master

Even better I may have found a 1980!!!! CJ for less that just needs the motor sitting on the floor next to it installed. 1989 was getting a little too new for me. All them fancy gadgets like master cylinders and crap. Who needs 'em. Thanks for the replies. I'm going to check out both Jeeps tomorrow and who knows I might buy one.

The Yj looks nice. More elbow room then your CJ5 had.
Should have kept yours if u want a cj5 again..

Too expensive to export and too much rust to be worth it to keep. Motor needed some work too. Sorry about not repsonding to the PM. As far as my wheeling goes. My truck has pretty much been on blocks since (US) Thanksgiving with the exception of 6 days during X-mas that I was attempting to break in my gears before the front went and now I'm trying to get them back, but the shop building them is taking their sweet time. They've had them for about 3 weeks now and they still aren't repaired and on their way home yet, so I'm looking for a new project. I liked my CJ, but the money wans't in it to export.

2 thumbs up for the CJ... the old green one was wicked... oddly out of all the TJ's and stuff ive been in that CJ had the most legroom... who'da thunk it...
