You can go to Waiporous but make sure you saty on the 4X4 trails... most trails are closed to 4X4 in that area.

Sorry Matt ...

After GAMP we decided to not talk about trails other than Waiporous and Mclean on the open forum.  ...

Thanks... Dominique

In my oppinion, an excellent decision. Welcome to the world of best kept secrets. Just like a secret fishing hole gets fished out, a favourite hunting spot gets over populated with hunters and game decreases, and a trail gets anounced and you soon see the impact too many people on it has.
Even if its used responsibly it still sees impact but unfortunately it doesn't always get used responsibly.

Good move on the CJA behalf..

The other way to look at it is that most people on this site are responsible users, at least the ratio of good vs. bad is much higher than the general public.  If more responsible people are aware of an area I think you're more likely to have a group of people able to benifit from the area and be able to help it as well.  You also would create an awareness of the area before it gets closed and have more people willing to fight.  If I see a place closing I've never heard of, how much opposition am I going to put up?  Just my opinion of course. ....Steve

This is a PUBLIC forum, we have no idea who reads this site.  Yes the majority of the registered users seem pretty decent, but as it has been already stated, Membership has its Perks.

It was agreed upon by the members of the CJA and that is how it stands

I personally don't really care what the CJA policy is, it really doesn't affect me personally.  I was just showing another point of view on a topic/policy that makes no sense to me.  Turns out it's all public land and available to anyone who can read a map anyways although not making wheeling areas known to the people who would care the most about losing them is kind of counter-productive in my mind.  I guess we'll see what happens when they try to close Indian Graves next and it's location and trails are still a "secret". .....Steve

I was looking at the point of view, of Waiporous getting most of its trails blocked. Not wanting the granola tree huggers to do the same elsewhere.

The people who are closing the trails are very much aware of what land is being used for offroad recreation, as are the people lobbying for the closure.  .....Steve

Wow ... I leave this thread alone and it turns out intresting.  :D

We can't control what people do... there are all kinds of people reading this site... that's the bottom line.

Personally I don't talk "much" about trails that I found exploring. I share them with my friends who I know will use them respecfully. I hope they will do the same with what I share with them.

Yes.. it's selfish... and very sad. We are losing our trails... that is reality. I want to limit (or slow down) what happened in Waiporous (and other places) ... That's all man. I love that area and miss the trails we used to have. This area was taken for granted by most (even me). Don't you miss Pretty rock or Harold Creek?

Man ... I do

That's my opinion....

Don't you think you'd get more people out to help repair the trails or have more wheelers protesting the closures if they knew what they were missing?  I do.  ....Steve

PS, not trying to start an argument or anything, I'm just surprised that people are no longer discussing trails.  I'm off to get my foil hat.

Its the same story in the 2 wheel world, We keep the trails to ourselves. There are so many hidden singletracks that we do not post publically. It may be sad but it is better that way for the few riders that use them. We already see that quads are cutting down trees to change our single track to quad trails. We now hide the entrances and exits.
Life has changed and even sadder is that the amount of people that actually fought for Waiporous was abysmal and that was a very popular place! So, in reality your respected opinion of letting every one know so they can all fight for the trails if it comes down to it, is sadly not true. AURS and AOHVA have had brutal turnouts since Waiporous closed.

You gotta do what you gotta do. Down here I see Tellico going away in a couple of years (alot of it's closed now) and it's the premier offroad destination in the south. We are combatting the radical tree huggers by opening and supporting private offroad parks. These "nuts" will stop at nothing to further their agenda including criminal activity. The only plus is the "good ol boys" have the same attitude towards them as revenuers in these mountains. I think it keeps them pretty well at bay. I couldn't live in California with the antics they pull there and get away with it..........I'm sorry to hear you folks have the same problem.
