This is about the dumbest question ever.... but we are looking for an older TJ for my girlfriend to stick 35's  on and I am wondering if the sport package has always been availble for the TJ even back in '97? That means inline 6 with D30/D44 and 4:10's.....
Thanks

yes...I bought my first TJ (sport) new in '96. But if you're putting 35's on it, you'll want one with a dana 44 rear diff, which wasn't availible until '98 and was kinda rare on the sports. Look for a Sahara.

The D44 is what we want! So the D44 never came in a TJ until 98? And it usually only came in a Sahara.... So the Sport packages really didn't come standard with them....

Not all of the Saharas came with the D44's so make sure you take a look and make sure it isn't a D35.
I am not sure, but i think the only jeeps that came stock with 4.10's were the 4 cylinders( yeah! 4bangers rule!) and the rubicons.
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong
Blair (01Sahara) has D30/35 with 3.07 's in his sahara

I think The rocky mountan editions have d44s in rear

I ordered my 2002 TJ sport from the factory, and the dana 44 was an option you had to pick&of coarse pay for!,The only jeeps that certainly come with a rear 44 are the rubicons.

Look at the sticker in the door frame any 4.0L that had the 30" tires from the factory had the 44 rear
the 01 60th anniversary edition had it

^ except 97 TJs.

Yep, basically if you ordered it with the 30" tire package you got the D44 or maybe with the towing package, but not totally sure about that one

Thanks for the replies!!!

The 30" tire package definitely didn't guarantee a 44. I bought mine new with the big tire package and the 44 was still only an option. Best bet is to get underneath and look. The only guarantee was 44's on the Rubicon.

FWIW,
The D44 was available in 97 but had 3.55 gears, later years had 3.73's (and then the Rubi's with 4.10's)
The only way to be sure of the 44 rear is to look at it.
