Title: Strange noise in my TJ
Post by: deedle on June 11, 2007, 02:31:28 PM
I have an o4 TJ Sahara.  It is a 5spd.    Any time I am just crawling along in traffic in 1st gear I get a knocking noise when I let off the gas pedal.  It feels like it is in the area below my feet.   Anyone ever experienced this or know what it may be?      It only happens when I am going slow and I ease up on the gas pedal.

Bad U-joint...
Worn out bushing on the t-case shifter pivot (under Jeep)...you may need a relocation bracket with your lift.
Worn clutch...
Loose bolt...

Thanks for the input.    I checked with the guys that supplied my lift.  They tell me that relocation bracket is not necessary for my jeep and that it wouldn't be causeing that.    Personally, I am not a mechanic so I really don't know ecaxt;y what it is but I am told that mine is hard mounted.

As far as I can tell everything is nice and tight too.   I did have my front drive shaft redone recently so I checked that out but there is no play in the joints.     However, the driveshaft itself does rotate back and forth a little bit.  I know it does turn all the time even when I am in 2 wheel drive so I am wondering if that is what is causing the noise.   I just don't know why I never noticed it before.
