Just put the t-case in neutral to tow
At least thats what the owners manual says

i put t-case in neutral. put tranny in 5th gear. (Steve, manual does say to put in gear, thanks)
When it moves front driveshaft does not spin. This is a good thing, right?
The rear should be getting lubed as it is towed.
Thought :D

Friends mine used to tow thiers behind a motor home all the time with no troubles. and some pretty long tows down to the states.

T-case in neutral.
Doesn't matter what gear the tranny is in , but if the manual says put it 5th gear that won't cause any issues.

Right. If it was moving you would be having some major problems

5th gear would be a better choice. The reason being that if the t-case does get bumped out of the neutral position and you don't notice there is less of a chance of overspeeding the engine/flywheel assembly if it tries to rotate.

Double post, mods please remove.

If the Tcase jumps out of neural your drive train is gonna lock up!

i am an optimistic guy...why on a new jeep would a t-case drop out of neutral? Have you ever heard of it with a TJ?

I dont think it would pop out of neutral, I am just saying what would happen if it did. That being said, is there any reason you would leave the tranny in gear?

i have spent lots of time trying to find out all the answers to this tow dolly adventure.
The best i have gotten besides the manual insisting (with no reason) that auto is in Drive and Standard is in gear is something to do with lubrication properties.
Honestly, i dunno.
But manual says to, so i will.
