You can drive it around a bit, its a annoying. Mine screeched for about 1 month before I fixed it. It fell apart in my hands when I removed it.
Bring you will be dropping the tranny, you might as well install a new clutch while you are in there ($200 vs $20 for just bearing)...It will save you a headache again 1 yr down the road when your friction plate is toast.
I found LUK brand clutch to be cheap and GREAT, equal to factory and being I wasnt slipping or anything I didnt need triple gold super grabber no slip II blah blah.
I found the LUk clutch for a reasonable price at King-O-Matic in Calgary, highly recommened. Otherwise you will be ordering from Florida...
With that said, alot have people have gone with the above double or dual friction etc etc.

If the squel is only happening when you push the clutch in, the most likely a throwout bearing. How long has it been doing this and how bad is the squel? I drove about 4 months on a squelling throwout bearing, not that I should have though
As for cost, if you are pulling the tranny, you might as well replace the whole clutch assembly ie clutch disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and pilot bearing if needed
As for price is depends on whether you have a 2.5L or 4.0L and if it is an external or internal slave. Externals were on all 93 and newer Jeeps. My 2.5L external clutch was about $200 and the 4.0L was about $325

be sure to change the pilot bearing. it can cause a very similar noise... just not a very common problem.

Is it a hydraulic clutch? Was it bled properly?
