I've blown gears before, but this has not been as a result from hearing this noise.
I'm a little confused as to what is creating this noise. My first assumption is that I may have a worn out u-joint as I don't have a drop kit installed(6 months now) on a 4" susp. lift which I had installed - 6months ago.
To describe the noise as best as I can; when I exceed 70km/h and shift into 5th, i hear a faint jingleing noise, which becomes more evident when I slide into neutral. However, it becomes fait if I push the shifter near 4th or any other gear.
What could be wrong, and what might happen if this problem persists?

kinda sounds like syncros are getting worn. correct me if im wrong but the 1997 TJ's still had the ax-15 manual trans 5-spd. good trans but the syncros go every now and then. not that hard to change... if you know the right person. or look for another trans. but start researching now. the problem may stay with 5th gear for now.

Considering I may be working against time for the more I prolong the repair, the higher chance there is of another gear going out; are there any recommendations for whom would be the best person(if you know of one) to consult with, in edmonton, to fix this?
