Title: What TJ balljoints?
Post by: RckyMtnTJ on September 28, 2007, 08:33:15 PM
I need to replace my upper and lower balljoints on my TJ.  Does anybody have any recommendations on where to buy them.  ie what brand?  I wheel fairly regularily during the may to october months.  Otherwise its primarily a daily driver.  Should I go premium?  Are all premiums adjustable?  Is adjustability a bad thing if you don't need it?  My Jeep is almost 10 years old and has had 33's on it for 8 years.  The stock ones seem to have done well.  I just don't want to pay triple for something that isn't necessary.

Any input would be appreciated.

Premiums aren't worth it. Believe it or not I got the best price at the dealer last time I did them.  Also check napa, auto value and parts plus.

Last time I did balljoints on a Dana 30 they were cheaper at Renfrew than Canadian Tire.  Unless you can get a discount, Napa will often sell parts at dealer prices.  Best idea is to phone around.

I have called a few places.  So far the house brands start around $35 and go up to about $50.  For the small difference in price I figured if there was an overwhelming suggestion to get a particular brand I could easily eat the $15 and go for a certain brand.  Premiums start around $75 and go up to about $120.  From what I've read and been told I guess I will likely stay away from those.  I have yet to call the dealer.  I work the weekend, so I will have to resume my calls on monday to get a few more prices.  If the dealer isn't rediculous, I might go for them since I know they last about 9 years with moderate abuse.

Any more opinions on brand/parts store?
