So my yj's useless e-brake is no longer holding, the lock no longer holds the brake engaged. Has anyone come up with a replacment idea? The factory's offering in this department is sadly lacking reliability. I know there was a recall on this item a few years ago and this one has been replaced under the recall but it is dead again. Anyone got any ideas?

empty beer bottle should do the trick.
Hold on, maybe that isn't a good idea.

I am in the same boat. I had to buy a new one earlier this year and it is already acting up. It is brutal. I even sent a compliant to Jeep about the quality of parts. I am on my 4th pedal assembly.
One option would be to convert to a pinion style brake on the t-case output shaft. I know you can do it on yota t-cases

One of the guys on the stampeder's site has a disk on the output of his transfer case. However with 33" tires he says the leverage is to great and the jeep still will creep with the brake on. I know princess auto has a bus e-brake lever maybe I will have to buy one and see id I could rig something up? Where are you getting you e-brake brackets from, I should get another one in the interim while i figure out a real fix...

I've had my 94 YJ for just over two years now , it was from BC , needed an out of province inspection . I ran the V.I.N. thru Chryslers online recall / checker ? and figured if there were any outstanding recalls , I'd have em done. The park brake recall was all that needed to be done , at that time there was nothing wrong with the way the park brake worked on the 94 , the 88 needed repair but had no recalls. Thinking a recall must be an upgrade , I went ahead and had it done.
The assembly they installed looked to be a better part , had an additional brace , all seemed good. Within six months it had self destructed. The original had lasted eleven years and still worked when the recall was done. I fixed it , had to weld a cross pin / pivot , it's still holding.
My 88 had issues with wear on the ratchet and would release without warning , that one got replaced with a used part from Jeep stuff.

it may be a lot of work but... a slick trick is to run two pull handle type e-brakes so you can control each rear wheel. measure out a couple different cables and see if they will reach to the handles... wherever you mount them. and the neet part is if you have a selectable locker you can dis-engage it and then pull one e-brake and turn on a dime. i think i read it in a mag a while back. just a thought.
