Can someone please tell me which Trail we'll be using?
I cant say for shure which trails untill we get there and see who shows up.
But i can tell u My jeep is not very big xj 4in lift 31in m\t....... and i am not a fan of deep mud. so if your GGGGGGGG Unit cant keep up with a littel xj on 31s than maybe ride with guy in the lada
maybe all trails below or just sum
Top of the world
valley trail
Maclean creek hill
quirk ridge
Hope to see the G wagon in action :D
-
G Unit, Too funny!
Ahh, looking at it, I'd compare it to a 6 inch lifted cherokee on 37's. But that's just my eye.
I've done some very challenging trails in Borden Ont and it held up really well. Skid plates, locking diffs front center and rear, tall thin military tires, and enough torque in the diesel to get by. All in all I'm not afraid of getting stuck, ( recovery is half the fun anyway), but I know the KOCR's are worried about a rollover, as the G wagons are top heavy, especially with the 1 meter Turret on top.
Looking forward to doing whatever trail safely, if there are bypasses on any steep grades I have to do sideways then I'll bypass to avoid tipping over.
Cheers!

Ahh, I don't think the radios work with Civi CB's. Any suggestions on anything handheld I can use as a substitute?
:?:

I'm definately in for this trip, should br a blast! 8)

Several of us have FRS hand helds as well.

I would get the new gmrs walki talkies. Costco are selling a pair of them for like $60 or so
The range is 40km
Im going to get the new ones.
Way better then the old frs radios with little range..

not in canada. in canada lucky to get 2KM. (except saskatchewan where you can get 100KM) (http://www.gmrs.ca/) <-- link
2 watts isn't much in a hand held with attached antenna.
-
Canadian tire has a bunch of GMRS radios
Heres 1 there
Motorola General Mobile Radio Service, 40-km
Product #69-7875-4
Motorola high power GMRS with camouflage finish
Up to 40 km range
22 channels, 121 privacy codes
11 National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather channels
Digital signal processing
Includes drop-in charger and NiMH battery pack
Bonus faceplates
-
yes but in canada you only get 2 watts. in canada you can't use repeaters.
canada - 2 watts and no repeater with fixed antenna = the suck
USA - 5 watts with repeater and external antenna = pretty good.
still better than frs but not by much. can click my link above, i will add underlining to it.
-
Are the channel frequencies the same in Canada as in the U.S.? Could you just buy one south of the border and use it up here?
-

:?:
A Handheld CB
CB's only talk to CB's
So having an FRS or GMRS or ham radio won't help you talk to the trail leader on CB.
Hand held CB's are available if you look around. Sometimes Princess Auto will have some.

yep they are the same.
as for the G-UNIT. if your rig comes with a cigarette adapter, i can bring a CB mounted on a breadboard with magmount antenna.

Kewl, thank you all for the info. I'm gonna get the Techies to look into it at the Unit, (746 Communication Squadron), I'm sure it has a cig lighter, but if not I'll try to see if the 12 foot communication antenna that I had to take out of the G Wagon will work.
Cheers!
-
You can get CB handheld radios at the RoadKing truck stop. There is a specialty store there that sells only CB's.
-
I might try to make this one. Would be good to wheel with some other XJ's. I will try to keep up.

Hey guys been awhile since I've ben to your site. Was reading thids and thought I'd post a couple of links to our lil "stocker" run last Sat. We did a couple ov very easy trais that became a nightmare for some just because of the snowfall. Be prepared. Warm clothes and extra food is always a good idea (weather can change fast!) Any way ust trying to give a heads up on POSSIBLE conditions. I might even try to get to this run. Would be nice to run with a bunch of fellow Jeepers for a change. Have fun everyone.
Jeepless aka TANK
One of the guys did a vid. Here is the link:

-
Do you need chains for this run???
nope
So r u finaly gona wheel that thing or just look at it.
-
We wheeled it a few weeks ago to test her out it was slow going out to Mclean (70-90km/h) because of the crazy vibration thing that happens every time I hit a bump going over 70 km/h. She wheeled great though.
-
A stocker Run??
Holy Crap Ive been waiting for one o these all year.
Im in If th wife as its OK andI can find A usable CB.
-
I have been told I cannot do the run. I will however come out to the meeting point to show the G Wagon to those interested and then make it out to the trailhead with the group.
Guess the KOCR's have had too many broken on trails.
Can someone please pm me with where to meet on sat and what time.
I'll be there early for those wanting a look.
Thank you.
-
Anybody got a spare handheld radio or something I could use for the run? Ive been too busy fixing the Jeep to get a CB this week...

Sorry I am going to be the jerk on this one and give you a hard time just because it is not a Jeep. :D
Oh no is the G wagon afraid of a little offroading. We would not want it to get dirty or even worse a little stratch. Geez drive it to the trailhead and not come on the trails, so basically you are admitting that a Jeep is FAR superior to a MB G-Wagon - AHAHAHA :D 8)
I am just being a little sarcastic here and it is all in good fun
-
Too bad he doesn't still have his Iltis to show you a few tricks.
-
Meet at the gravel pit?? I thought this run was at Mclean.
-
Yes it is a mclean run, gravel pit is further down the road if you take a right after the store,
If you are not sure were it is just stop at the mclane store and follow someone out to the pit.
-
OK Thanks
-
This an official CJA run. Waivers will have to be signed by non-members
seeya saturday...
-
Very funny,
Wish I could wheel it but...it is the Army and it's not worth the charge. Anyway, I still do not know where the Gravel Pit is or the McLean store. If its an issue of keeping it off the Radar, just pm me so I can show up with it for those who are interested.
Sorry I don't know where these places are, I am new to Calgary.
Thanks.
Jack.
-
K turns out im campin in maclean friday night in the field just before the gravel pit so if imup ill prolly pop down and shoot da shiz for a few

-
Thanks guys.
See ya there.
Cheers!
-
There's a map to maclean at the top of this trail ride section.
If you can find your way to the store. I am sure some one will be able to get you to the pit.
Call us on your CB when you get there. Probably Channel 10
-
Just looked at the area on a detailed map. It is gonna suck not being able to wheel. Looks like a great area.
I'll see about getting a handheld CB, but I'd rather wait to get a better one for my XJ. Oh yea and Skid plates. And uh, front tow hooks, er maybe a new front bumper with a winch. A lift would help. New tires, ...
Yea I got a stock Cherokee.
Thanks for the Directions. I'll be there tommorow with the G Unit.
Cheers!
-
I'm out. Gonna stay home and work on the old CJ.
Was out there this afternoon, most of the snow is gone, some of the hills are still a little slick & Icy, but no problem for a Jeep
Have fun and play safe!
-
most of the snow is gone,
 maybe it will snow tonight
-
I'm in. :D
See ya there.
-
we all made it except you, then a while later 4 turned around.
we made it all the way down fisher west then valley to the staging area @ 6:00pm.
then we split up again and 3 of us went to top of the world in the dark (thanks to the Nathans). Got to the road @ 7:00
now we're all home watching the game @ 8:00
was lots of stucks and a few small problems along the way.
