Title: PowerSteering Drip
Post by: Coolhand Luke on August 25, 2005, 10:01:58 AM
Hi all, just want to say hello, just registered today and have a question. I have a drip coming out somewhere on my power steering. Sometimes it will spew 1/4 L other times it is just a dripovernight , sometimes nothing at all. I've looked can't see a leek and I just check and top up the res. when needed, which is only every other month. Its not a big deal its just I don't like to see that little dark spot under my Jeep (98 TJ Sport 4L). Just want to add this is the best site around, just jeep talk and trail riding.

If you get everything nice and clean, then watch for the first signs of staining, you should be able to trace the leak back.

Once you find it you can go with new parts, or give Ken at jeepstuff (681-jeep) a holler.

Thanks for the reply, I've been looking and I figure I will have to buy a used pump eventually. Just wanted to know if anyone else has had the same prob. Also maybe because I went to 30" Mt's and its just little more
strain on the system? Thanks for the help.

Just be sure its the pump and not the box before you start replacing parts.

If does turn out to be the box and you are planning on building your jeep up in the future, that would be a good oppourtunity to upgrade the box.

Their are bigger, stronger dodge boxes that will bolt right in to a 98. If you get to that point, come and ask again and some of the guys here who have done the upgrade can explain further.

good luck

oh, and if it turns out to be the pump, I have a stock one off of my 03 4 litre because I upgraded. You'd have to find out if it swaps, I know the boxes are different, but dont know about the pumps. Wouldnt want more then 25$ for it.
