Wasn't there someone on here who works at Soundsaround or Visions? I'm looking to buy a big TV for the basement and can't get a straight answer on which TV to buy. If you work there, let me know so I can come buy my TV, PVR and sound system from you. Thanks. ...Steve

Yup, for sure getting a plasma, just not sure on brand. I want a 50" 1080p and so far have been shown and like the Samsung and Hitachi's. It seems every salesman has a different opinion on the same TV's. I think most guys just push whatever makes them the most commision so I'm looking for unbiased help. ...Steve

go to Costco
completely unbiased.
When i bought my Samsung 56" LCD Tv, i was told so much bs from the chain stores. The biggest scam was HDTV. They would show the TV with HDTV and the TV with just cable. The cable always looked like it was a snowstorm.
Well, did i want to add $1000 for everything i would need to do HDTV?
NOPE
i figured 56" of Cable TV would be so much better than my 30" Tube TV. So, i bought a HDMI DVD player/recorder and when i rent movies the quality is equivalent to HDTV.
Game playing is just sick on 56" so HDTV made no sense.
Regular TV is so good on 56" that i really do not care that i do not have HDTV.
Who provided me with all these ideas? Costco sales staff!
Snowstorm? NOPE!
What i did find out after the fact is that for OPTIMAL viewing, the 56" TV had to be 25-30 feet away from your eyes. My TV is set at the smaller 48" screen as anything bigger and my eyes go buggy and headache ensues.
Unless, it is a widescreen Movie, than FULL screen is fine.
Food for thought.
And YES, i do know that HDTV is the bomb but my 56" gernade is perrty good with regular cable 8)

56" in my tiny basement would be like IMAX.

I got a hitachi plasma
good thing about hitachi is most of the parts are from panasonic which is very good.

I have to disagree on the HD vs. Regular TV... I have a 60" rear projection screen and I love HDTV on it. Maybe it would be different if I had plasma or LCD but on my CRT projection the HD kicks all over the regular channels. Hockey in HD is awesome.

Which one? I'm looking a the P50s601.
Tom, I'd disagree on the HD thing as well. A friend has a 50 or 52" Pioneer plasma (super pimp model) and when you go from a regular feed to a HD feed there's a world of difference. From what I've seen, the bigger the TV, the worse regular cable will look on it. I'm definitley going with the HD box or there would be no reason to upgrade TV's in my mind. I'll keep you guys posted on what I find out tomorrow from the 5th store I've gone to.

Can't get to back of tv to check model. its on our fireplace
these days its hard to buy junk so i would go with which picture looks best out of the name brands
think i paid around 2600 for our hitachi. Its been a awsome tv. Tons of inputs...

As i said :D
HDTV is the bomb....
but going from a small TV on cable to 56 on cable is the grenade!
1000 x better!
As long as i never see that difference, cable will remain.
