Okay guys, I'm at a loss for answers to my problem. As most of you know, I have a 2003 Rubicon and recently I have been experiencing some problems with it. This week it is a problem of constantly stalling. The Jeep runs smooth so long as I keep the revs up. if I let off the gas and let it idle while stopped she shuts off. She doesn't sputter or run rough, but rather just quietly shuts off. At lunch yesterday I had to run some erands and went out to warm her up. She started up fine, idled high durring warm-up with no problem, but I noticed that the fuel gauge showed 3/4 of a tank when I knew I only had 1/4 tank left. After running for about 5 minutes the gauge started dropping down to 1/4 tank where it should have been. I was parked on level ground so I know it wasn't angled weird. Next, when I left, the first stop sign I came to it stalled just after coming to a complete stop. This happened anytime i was stopped completely for more than 2 seconds. As a result I had to control the idle at about 1000 rpm to keep it from stalling. A friend mentioned that it was probably the idle sensor in the throttle body, but I thought I would post and get some feedback before taking things apart. This problem just started suddenly and is not something that has gradually occurred or become worse. Any thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

O2 sensor :?: a bad one can do this i know that is how my z24 acted when it had a bad o2 senser.

throttle position sensor most likely. isn't your jeep still ubder warranty?

Throttle position sensor.

Could be a restricted exhaust.

Should be a TPS, unless you have smoke, severly lost power, or insanely bad fuel mileage.
If all is normal except the low idle stalling, it is typical TPs.

Can you retrieve diagnostic codes with these newer Jeep's , like OBD1 with the key on-off-on-off-on sequence ?

Yep, 3 keys and something to do with headlights or something.
I have an obd2 reader, so always forget the exact method.
I imagine Stu offroad has it on his site.

Both my YJ's have OBD1 and code retreival is a on-off-on-off-on deal , or I use my OTC 4000E.
On OBD1 , you can set the computer back to factory defaults by .......
Disconnect POSITIVE battery cable
Touch it to the NEGATIVE battery post
Reconnect the positive cable
Turn key on , do not start
Turn headlights on
Turn headlights off
Turn key off
Done

That is the correct way for OBD2 as well. At least it is for my 97. Just a quick note you should leave the positive cable connected to the ground for at least 10 seconds to make sure you get a full discharge on the circuits. I usually leave it for 30 seconds to a minute, maybe thats overkill but it shouldn't do any harm.

When my TPS went in my TJ it did the same thing... stalled unless I revved it up enough to keep the RPM's from dropping to zero. Even when I pressed the clutch in the needle would drop to zero so I had to shift fast.
It's about $70 from Napa and about 10 mins to install.
