margret lake / the falls  are out in the Ghost area.... basically the only trails that is left... nice easy run.... some sections can still be quite tricky because of the ice conditions out there but doable.   ;D

Is this doable in a Stock JK 4 Door Rubi? I wouldn't mind coming out if I can.

Anyone have a map? How far from Calgary?

Thanks!

This is the plan at the moment.
Leave smitty's at 9 sharp. Hi- ball it all the way to the falls Stopping to air down, probably at 4 corners. I made it to the falls by 11 once before  in winter, So I am aiming for noon. We will have a fire, cook up what ever  you want to bring along. BS for a while then start heading back. we will take out time coming back, I imagine the group will split up with some going to margaret lake, some heading down to meadow creek, some heading home.
Requirements
Good tires.
Solid front and rear tow points, no bumper mounted wimpy tow points etc.
It's winter.. Chains and winches are very good idea, I have no idea how much ice and snow will be on the trail by next week.
Proper tow straps, looped ends. No metal hooks.
CB's....not FRS we need to be able to all talk and listen on the same channel.
Again it's winter time, stuff happens, be prepared. On the boxing day run a jeep ended up on it's side, on a fairly mild trail with a very experienced driver. ANYTHING could happen.
It is open to anyone who meets the above qualifications. jeeps, toyotas, land rovers, members, non-members etc.

Meet us at the smitty's in cochrane, It is on hwy 22 just south of the 1a hwy. Then it is about 45 minutes to the trail head.
Do-able in a rubi with lockers, Like Cotaman said. Body damage is always a possibilty when off-roading

I was out there a week ago.  There isn't much snow out there, boot top on my hiking boots at the most.  The river crossings are pretty much frozen, although the Toyota Taco did manage to break through the ice up to the axle with one wheel.  We didn't encounter any significant ice on the trails.  We did Lost Knife, Meadow Creek, went to the "falls" and Margaret Lake.

If it was summer, then that would be fine to get to the falls. I'm sure a two wheel drive pickup would make it all the way, if it had clearance, 31's and maybe a rear locker

That’s great Steve! Good start to the New Year! I am coming with Nolan and two adult passenger, visiting from Ontario. Thought I would show them the real Alberta. I have to be home in good time as we are having a 6th birthday party for Nolan that night. See you for breakfast.

Well, count me out, and let's count on me getting a 4w-drivetrain into her for the next open run.   :-[ Good rear bumper, plastic front, no tow hooks, no CB installed yet, heater core needs purged....yeah, I'm thinking she's a little under "ready" for a run.  ;D

My jeep is broke. Front driveshaft. I was going to do the trail in 2wd but someone reminded me of the last time I tried that and it was summertime ::)
So I will not be leading, but will be riding shotgun.
See everyone for breaky in the morning
Have a Happy New Years eve. But not too happy, wheeling hungover is no fun ;D

I just went out there on sat. dec. 29th in my basically stock tj, and my brother took my pops stock Tacoma out. we went out to margaret lake, cleaned up all the garbage that was left from who ever was ice fishing. Had to cut a couple of fallen trees up to clear the path.
We continued down the cutline from margaret lake after stoping to eat, my bro got stuck after hitting where the small creek had overflown and iced over.. took a while to get him out.. and by that time it was getting dark. we turned around and tryed going back up that hill... I had to gun it in 2nd gear 4L, with tires turning everywhich direction to make it back up. The Taco didnt, however, make it up... so I had to meet him half way and tow him back up.. close one.. thought we might be camping that night.
I should have posted this b4 the run just 4 a heads up of the frozen trail.

also, i am sorry to hear of Shaun's(?) misshap. i hope he gets well soon and that his wife will continue to let him out to play!  ;)
