Just wondering what the largest tire is that I should install on a stock 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo , 4.0 L , Auto.

that depends on how much rubbing you can live with... generally speaking, you can go up one size from stock. and thats on stock oem offset wheels.

My 97 came stock with 215/75R 15 but I have run 235/75R 15s before my lift with no problems. 31's will rub even with a 2" lift.

My dad has 30X9.5s on his stock '96 4.0. No rubbing but he doesn't wheel it hard.
I've got 31X10.5s on my '93 5.2 with the Upcounry package(factory 1" lift). They rub on the lower control arms at full turn. Not sure about offroad as I havn't taken it offroad yet, tires are toast.
Both are running stock rims.

Some rubbing offroad with 31's, but they do flex really good. :D

I had to trim the front bumper plastic to fit the 31's even with 1 3/4" spring spacers and I hit my fenders a couple times wheelin. Running 15x8 wheels with some offset so they stick out a bit though.

stock, i'd suggest 235s just as others have suggested. u can go bigger, just gotta cut what gets in the way
