well recently picked op this jeep about 3 months ago, and really been loving it. I have noticed out the past month a crunching?!? noice when i engage the clutch. At first i was thinking it was just in hinge that the pedal is attached to in the firewall. After further I found the noise is coming from the front of the tranmission casing where the throwout bearing is. Anyone heard of this problem before. I am a new jeep owner and also learning the setup and so on. Any ideas?

from your description it very well could be the throw out bearing. if you need to get it done, i do some work out of my garage. let me know.

Run it until it starts to squeel like a stuck pig. Then do a complete clutch job while you are in there.
Sometimes they run for several years while groweling, sometimes they go in a couple months. Problem is, the labor to do a release bearing is essentially the same as doing the clutch as well. 6 less bolts. So you might as well stretch it out, and then do the clutch when its time.
Good luck.

The bearing in my 2001 Sahara has been making a little noise for 2 years and has not got any worse durring that time.

I ran mine with a squeeky throw-out bearing for a good 6 months before i changed it. It got pretty bad, so I thought it was time to change it

Sounds like you are describing exactly what mine did. $283 for the whole clutch assembly and a day under the jeep in the driveway and you can have a whole new clutch and throwout bearing.

Thanks for the offer. I currently have a place with garage and kinda love to tinker around with these sorts of things. When the time comes i will keep you in mind whereas it may be nice to get some assistance with the project.

thanks for all the input. Yea i guess I will let er go until it started to drive me nutts. should i feel this in the clutch when i engage and disengage the clutch. I did have a quick look under and relized that it would a big job for just the bearing and it definately would be smart to change the cluth at the same time. Thanks again for the help.

no problem. and i definitely agree to do the whole clutch while you are in there. also i like to get the flywheel machined. chances are nothing will happen if you don't but if something does you'll be kicking yourself for it.
