Hey all,
New to the forum, just wanted to run some questions past ya.
Have a 99 WJ (staying stock), just bought a 99 XJ for fun. Plans are are a 5" lift, 33", bumpers, winch, lights, CB. My question (albeit a broad question) is.... What problems arise when doing the lift/tire mods on a Cherokee. I am thinking that I will have to regear. Any recommendations?
Thanks

regearing is probably a good idea - you'll be happier. you may need to do a slip yoke eliminator - definitely recommended. adjustable control arms or maybe some relocation brackets. you will have to do some fender trimming to fit those 33s. upgrade your track bar - some kits come with one. get a good steering stabilizer. bar pin eliminators are a good idea in the rear aswell...

Thanks!
At the risk of sounding like a complete newbie... what is a bar pin eliminator? What gears are recommended for 33"?

4.27 or 4.56 - 4.88 incase you decide to upsize to 35's or 37's at a later date.

at the top of your shocks in the rear there is a bar that goes through the bushing that gets bolted to the unibody. the bar pin eliminator is a bracket that bolts to the body and then the shock gets bolted to the bracket. its just a weak spot the bar can break or slip out from under the bolt. plus if the bolts haven't been out for a while they can be a bastard to get out. it isn't a crucial upgrade, just a peace of mind upgrade...

For 33s, 4.10-4.56 gears work pretty good. I run 4.10s with my 33s in my YJ and I have a good amount of power. If you are thinking you might go to 35s, then go with the 4.56s. 4.88s would be pretty steep for 33s unless it has a 4 banger

33's & 4.10's here and it's not very nice. going 4.88 and will test em with 33's before i decide if i want to go with 35's or not.

gearing also depends on manual or automatic transmission. you need a numerically higher gear ratio with an auto for the same results

Sweet!! You guys rock.
I had more questions to ask slow day at work), but I can't remember them right now.
