Hey I was wondering if anyone might be able to give me sum tips for my 91 xj 4.0 H.O. Its runing like a bag of crap, bucking and back fireing thru the intake under load and sumtimes the idel surges. And no check engin light is coming on, A new tps did not help. This problem just had to start while i was down a trail in waiprous that sucked but it limped home. I also have an 87xj that does a samething and i changed just about everything from wireing harnsses to several computers, mapsensors tps, cranck sensor, knock sensor, fuel rail, injectors, fuel filter, injector harness, distributer, cap, spark plugs, and more. Is there sumthing any one could sugest?
thanx

A leak in the intake somewhere after the throttle body?
start the engine and spray wd-40 onto all the gasket surfaces/intake tracts and see if the idle smooths out..........

I fixed my 91 xj, I checked the fuel pressure and it only had about 13 pounds of pressure. It turns out the rubber hose between the fule pump and sending unit inside the gas tank had come off most of the way and it was loosing pressure there. so all i had to do is tighten one hose clamp. The previous owner must of had a fule pump installed and one of the hose clamps was not tightened during installation. Aint it great when ya run into a cheep fix.

Whay do you use to check fuel pressure? I know there's a Shraeder valve on the fuel rail, but where whould I find the right gauge?
