If you want to minimize rubbing you will need about 3.75" on a 8" rim

ok hows about a 35" tire and would i have to change gears?

backspacing really does not have anything to do with tire diameter, it is width. With my 33x12.5s and 3.75" BS, I still rub slightly at full lock.
As for 35s and gears, it all depends on what you got now. However, as a rule of thumb, you should have at least 4.56s for 35s. Nowadays a lot of people are going with 4.88s. On the flip side though, I know people running 35s with 4.10s and 3.73s.
