The CJA has started a petition to request a temporary restriction to the Mclean Creek OHV area during the May Long Weekend. We need everyone in the OHV community to sign this petition.
If you have wheeled or plan to wheel in Mclean Creek, you should be signing!
If you are tired of picking up garbage, you should be signing!
If you are fed up with the media blaming the off road community, you should be signing!
If you are disgusted with SRD using May Long Weekend as an excuse to close designated OHV areas, you definitely need to SIGN!
Take a few seconds to read and sign this. And let others know...

Thanks Joel

I am curious... what are peoples thoughts on this idea:
(in the case the petition doesn't do anything)... What if the 'real' 4wd community voluntarily stayed away from Mclean - May long? And made sure the word was out to the media that 4x4 enthusiasts have taken this step to try to separate themselves from the riff-raff...
...I'd like to hear opinions on that type of thing...
-
For the most part, members from organized clubs do stay away from the problem areas during May Long Weekend. The unorganized 4wd crowd is harder to convince and for the most part still do not understand.
If you do a search on here, you’ll see that last year the media was hard pressed to find footage of 4wd vehicles off-roading in those area’s so, they used footage of CJA picking up garbage whilst pointing the blame on 4x4 community. :o :o :o

My only worry is, if they can not go to Mclean, where will they go and will we then lose THAT area. We lost Meadow Creek last year...
And, no, I don't have a good solution. I do agree this is a good idea.
-
...the media does love it's dramatic effect... makes you wonder if they are running the news or a reality show.
-
Thanks for organizing this. Signed & posted on the Evo site to get many more signatures for you.

They will pack wiaprous till its overflowing with drugs, parties, fires, fighting and drunk reckless driving.
..as they do every year anyway.. there will just be more.

signed. good idea in my opinion. The drunks/partyers are not there to wheel they are just there to destroy things anyway. I personaly don't wheel there on may long anyway. I actualy havn't wheeled on a may long at all because of them.

Done!

Done. Good luck in the fight.

DONE!!!!
I think it's a GREAT plan. Hope they close both Mclean & Ghost for the long weekends. Would like to be a bystander watching everyone being turned away, just to see their reactions :P.

Update
As of Sunday morning 286 on line signatures plus 26 signatures on the original document, that was presented to ASRD on Friday. ASRD was provided with the link to follow the growth of on line support. If you have not signed it then please do.
This idea of restriction to camping and banning alcohol is a far better solution than the Government found after last May long weekend parties in Indian Graves (Willow Creek).
Thanks for the supporting signatures. Please keep the momentum going and e-mail the link to other interested OHV users.

I was at the four corners camping last May long and found it much quieter than years before. Very few rigs out there, mostly quads. Still saw a rave/grad party or two though. Signed the petition.

Signed.
Why the petition did not extend to Waiparous??
if is needed I will stay away from the area on may long week end. But maybe what we need is to go on may long weekend and act responsible maybe we will teach some idiots how to behave. At the same time we can pick up garbage that we encounter, keep a video record with license plates of abusers, GPS coordinates of People partying in excess and abusing the land. and maybe we could report them to the authorities?
anyway just my thinking.
cheers
Carlos

What a damn uphill battle >:(.
Yesterday I went to Indian graves for the first time in about 10 years... Same stuff going on there. Idiots leaving there fires burning, garbage and cans all over, a shot bird, a rolled jeep.
They should look at teaching this in school so that kids can learn. A big problem I have found being young and camping with other young people, many of them haven't been taught forest edicate.

But were will be a good spot to wheel on the long weekend then ?
-
Done, great idea...I'm #518 online

It is crown land and therefore I have just as much right to go out and responsibly wheel just as much as I have the right to go out and responsibly camp (Yes that would include drinking some beers, bocce ball, campfire, etc)
Having said that however I'm probably one of the small minority of campers who respective of the environment and responsible, yeah we do go out and get drunk, listen to loud music, and all that good stuff but that doesn't have to include making a mess of the place and being a nuissance. We camp at the same place every weekend in Hunter Valley and treat it like it was our own little piece of land (In the sense that we look after it as if we were paying for it) although this year we plan on going to Mclean for May Long (Going to watch the idiots destroy their trucks is part of the reason)
There are a majority of idiots that flock out to Waiparous and McLean throughout the summer and especially on May long, I only want to point out one thing, not everyone that goes out camping and isn't a die hard wheeler are part of the problem. We've been looking forward to May long since last May and to be locked out because of a bunch of idiots from the city who don't have any respect really pisses me off.
I'm a bit of a redneck so naturally I have a redneck solution, bring a length of rope and when you find some bunghole wrecking up the place take him for a tour through some trails, at the end of the rope being towed behind your trucks. Eventually word will get out and those pukes will leave the place alone.

Or their little "I wanna be a gangsta" buddies will shoot you in the wranglers and cowboy hat...
-
I personaly have signed this for the reason to keep this area...if that's what it's going to take. I am also going camping at Mclean during this maylong and have organized an event for others to join as this is an anual event for my family/friends. We are always collecting garbage, bottles n such around the area regarless if it's here or there. We also encourage others to go with us to demonstrate these values so others may adapt to their own. If we notice something that is taking place in the area, we will speak. What happens there is wrong and I agree, but I feel we need to be there to demonstrate/parent while those are taking it for granted! But as it stands for now...Were planing to go, but if closed...for the right reasons..
My two cents...

Please remember to follow the rules this weekend and "Tread Lightly"
Thanks for all the support on the Petition.

Thats great Thom, that you and your freinds are responsible. I dont think anyone here for one minute beleives that every random camper is an animal.
What we do beleive, is that it would be worth it in our eyes, to give up one weekend of the year in Mclean, so that we could enjoy the area for the rest of the year.
I dont go out to watch animals wreck their trucks, and having been one of the guys to volunteer to 2-4 days straight just about every year cleaning up Mclean after the destruction.........................
I have to be honest and say Im a bit offended that you and your freinds would think it "entertaining" to go and watch the gongshow.
Last year we pulled 36 tons of gargabe out of Mclean in 1 day after the maylong. We had close to 50 volunteers out for a 10-12 hour day.
Thats in the area of 600 man hours. Imagine what we could do to help the trail systems with 600 man hours if we werent so busy using them to clean up a bunch of partiers garbage.
I appreciate that it would frustrate you to give up that weekend, but stop and realize for a moment, just because you and your freinds act responsibly, that doesnt mean that the majority of the people in that area, during that weekend will do the same.
I dont disagree with your "redneck" point of view either. It just isnt realistic.
Enjoy the long weekend.

For those of you going out may long, maybe take pictures of those people that are abusing the park and forward to the appropriate authorities.
