Hey everyone, pretty new to this board. I picked up a 93 Cherokee Laredo for cheap. the only problem with it is the tranny wont shift out of first gear. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what is wrong with it. Bad selonoid? Clogged filter? If the tranny is toast what are my options for swapping to a hydrolic tranny?
Any Ideas? thanks
PS I searched the boards with no luck

Grand cherokee(ZJ) or regular Cherokee(XJ)?

XJ

xj should equal AW4 note 42re...... probably solenoid. :-\

Agreed, the XJ only ever used the AW4, it never came with a 42re, ZJ used the 42re.
I'm guessing a solenoids as well. AW4s are very bullet proof and rarely have problems. I would either replace with another used one or try changing the solenoids.

yeah My bad it is a zj, today I found a 42re at pick and pull, so i'm just gonna swap the entire valve body and cross my fingers
