Title: ZJ Drivetrain
Post by: jeepinjon on March 30, 2008, 09:22:40 PM
I've read alot of posts on this website, and many more about how to tell which drivetrain you have on your ZJ.  I find the more atricles i read, the more mixed up i get. I'm a YJ guy, and am starting to get to know the ZJ. I seem to be having problems with the t-case and transmission, and want to replace them, but i dont know what to look for!
its a 93zj, 275,000kms, 4.0, and its all-time 4WD, and on the shifter, it has 3 drive options, D, 2, 1. (i read that it made a difference).
Can anyone point me in the right direction, or are there stamps or tags i can look for?
Thanks for your help!

tcase is the NP 249 all wheel drive. similar the 242 or 231, just with no part time options.  on your particular case, it also does not lock into 4low (its still lowrange, but not a 50/50 lock... i wheel mine hard though, and don't really notice)  your transmission is the 42RE common on 93 -95 grands.   ps, if u need a perplacement tcase i have a rebuilt one in my garage right now

Only for 6 months if '93 and then the shift pattern on the console is OD-3-2/1 with 2 and 1 being hte same position, same as an XJ.
