do forget places like truckstops. i know the fling j at barlow and deerfoot has a large selection of antenas. Also i know walmart also carrys some cb equipment

keith

oh and if there anything like the old radio shack mag mounts ive used them for years without problems. the magnet can be unbolted, and then you can just bolt it to your antenna mount. i found the weekspot was the cable as i alsway seem to break the cable right at the end into the antena. but cable is cheep and replacable

You are better off having a cheap radio and good antenna than the other way around. Your antenna has more to do with the performance of your CB than the radio does.

Just gonna bump this thread...

I got my hands on a Cobra 19 Ultra and am looking for an antenna. I went to Flying J's and they have a 4ft antenna w/ mounting bracket for $50....Whats the best length to get and what kind of prices have you guys found around the city?

comtek @ road king

get the 4' wilson flex $40
get the 18' braided coax with a screw on end $30 or so

he has a variety of mounting brackets with studs $10-$25 or so.

this is where you do not want to cheap out.

Don't know if it was a one off but Princess Auto in Lethbridge had a 48" whip with bracket and cable for $12.95

I didn't buy it cause I thought it was too expensive - I've been buying CB stuff at garage sales and swap meets for years for next to nothing - just gotta keep looking. Three weeks ago I got a box with a next to new CB, two antennas, several cables, brackets, external speakers and other stuff for $5.

Clay, where does it mount up on the ZJ?  I kinda want mine mounted on the rear, out of the way on the trail.

I demand the best possible performace from my CB. So there is only one choice. The center of the roof.  :o

I never use the sunglass or garage door opener compartment in the overhead console so one of those will be gutted and then the cable will snake up the a pillar, across the front top of the windsheild tucked into the liner and then into the overhead console. The hole will be drilled so that the base of it ends up inside the overhead console.

I did this on my XJ and sealed the base with a bit of silicone and never had an issue with leaking.
