I'm looking into some power adders and i just cant decide what to do! I'm looking at put on some 42's so the stock 4.0L just doesn't have the beans to move them. so yeah thats why I'm looking at power adders.
Ive found some superchargers, which i don't want to spend that kind of money, and turbos, same boat as the superchargers. now what about a stocker kit?? they do make them for the in-line 6 right?
i know i could do the basic stuff like a throttle body spacer, new exhaust and intake, but thats on 5-10hp here and there.
I'm not sure what the gearing is I'm my jeep is as is, but i think there 4:10's but not 100%, what would you guys suggest??

http://www.edgeproducts.com/product.php?pk=44&pvk=113
Found this in the JP mag. They claim up to 20% gains when used as a full kit, and it's fairly priced.

not to bad but doesnt come for the 91 yj.

Yank the 4.0 and find a V8. Theres no replacement for displacement!! ;D

that is the cheapest solution 8)
The edge product does NOTHING for HP gains in the rpm's we need the gain. There are many threads on the waste of this and similar products.

well im looking at running some 42's. im looking into regearing. looking at some 5.38's. but i just need something for a little bit more ....omph...
-
well is there anyone on here thats running bigger then 35's?? im sure there is, im even thinking of going with 37's. a litttle git bigger but not to much loss of power.

gears will be your best bet. the air intake and exhaust will help a little as well. the stroker kits will be your best bang for engine power. but realize that you may be money ahead goin with a v8. but the stroker engine fits right in and all your parts will swap right on too.
-
i totally agree with the whole v8 deal!!
-
well the V8 is a whole lot more trouble them what i want to deak with at this point, if i wanted to go with the 8 then i would have bought a ZJ. not that thats not an idea!! ;)

I think the best bang for the buck is a stroker.

I would say stroker and gears. Or go have a look a Pirate for agitators thread on 400 HP 4.0L on pump gas.
I have seen guys on the trail with the supercharger and they went through a whole tank of gas and barely made it back when everyone else was about 1/2 a tank or less.

I would suggest planning on a stroker (simple to build & it will bolt right in with only a few mods) and gears. That will be enough for highway and if you need more jam off road plan on a new t-case with deeper 4-Lo reduction, like an atlas 4:1. No matter what you do a vehicle with a 4L & 42's will not be a rocket in 2Hi or 4Hi.
I am running a 4.oL (with only a performace header & no cat)With bias 36" swampers and 4.88 gears. I find that I have little power on the highway(especially on hills) but is o.k. off road in 4Lo.

You might as well do the chev. Your YJ transmission and T-case are not up to the task of 42's.
What axles are you running?
If you really want to hack something together, then just buy a 100hp NOS kit and run that. That way when you blow all your drivetrain and 4.0, you can transfer the NOS kit to your smallblock.
There is no cheap way to add usefull power to a 4.0
There are hundreds of ways to pee money away on BS mods that dont actually do anything.
