Title: Coil Spring Compressors
Post by: BEZZ on June 06, 2008, 12:21:10 PM
Hey Guys, So I've owned the Jeep for three weeks now and I'm half-way through a 3.5" Budget boost. I am having trouble getting the rear springs in though. Do I really need to buy a set of spring compressors? Tip and Tricks is what I am looking for or some one that has a set I could rent for the weekend for a six-pack. Gimme some directions here, I'm tired of driving the wife's Accord! Thanks in advance

Rear springs usually come out if you disconnect the shocks, sway bar and just let the axle hang (make sure you support the frame with some decent jackstands).   You may have to disconnect the track bar too (or lift one side of the axle forcing the other side down)

You can have another person push down on the axle while the other slide the springs.

or

I have a spring compressor you can borrow, i'm in the NW.

Joel where in the NW are you? Is it a decent quality spring compressor you have or should I just get the $10 PA one...just worried about it blowing up in my face. :P

I don't know if it's any better then the PA model, I bought it from Auto Value a while back.  Come to think of it you could probably borrow one from Parts Source.

I'm in Scenic Acres, across from Crowfoot (Crowchild & Nosehill Dr).

I just did mine last week end, had trouble getting the damn things in. I ended up using my breaker bar to pry the springs in. A flat crow bar would have worked a lot better.
