Title: TJ Transmission Conversion
Post by: Duncan71 on June 10, 2008, 02:45:05 AM
Hey all,

Well it looks like ive found a super cheap 97 TJ with a blow motor (i believe its hydrolocked and someone has sunk it as there is mud in all those hard to reach places under the body), the only problem is it is originally a automatic.  I will need to a scavenge a 2.5L from somewhere to do the swap but I really dont like the idea of having an automatic transmission.  If I find a 2.5L mated to an AX15, how hard will it be to set up the clutch pedal and cylinder assemblies?  The not running but complete jeep will only cost me about 1000 - 1500 so would this be worth it?  What kind of electrical issues will I have swapping the transmissions?  Is there any good tech articles on this out there?

Thanks guys,
Duncan

It would be an AX-5 transmission you need for the 4 banger

the ax 15 has a different bolt pattern due to it being a larger trans but if you do a motor swap to another 2.5 i might be interested in the engine

Sorry ax 5 what i meant, but the real question is how hard is it to set up the clutch assembly?  Will I need new driveshafts?  The automatic to manual is what Im really concerned about.

these guys sell complete conversion kits... I'm not sure if they have one for the 2.5 litre though.
