Title: leaf spring to coil springs swap?
Post by: shonster on June 12, 2008, 05:50:44 PM
how much would someone from here who KNOWS what theyre doing charge me to do a swap like that in my 91 YJ? something reasonable...and at the same time swapping over my rust free body tub onto my current chassis?

Two words - Shackle Reversal

I rode in a YJ with this and it was quite enjoyable. I personally don't plan to run that way, but it may be an inexpensive way to get what you seek.

This would involve basically stripping it down to the frame (could leave motor, tranny & T-case in ), re-engineer a suspension system, some fabrication (expensive), and lots of labour. Keep in mind that almost every bolt you remove will be rusted and should be replaced.

My guestimate would tally up in the $2-$3K mark, + Parts.

You would end up with a ride quality similar to a TJ, but most people don't buy TJ's because of the ride quality  ;D

I put the diffs and front suspension from a 79 Bronco on mine.
Lots of frame cleaning, lots of welding, and lots of measuring.
Lots of work - won't do that again - until the next time ;)

Really - it all lined up - unbelievable 0 even the jeep bump stops.
