Title: New CB, SWR meter
Post by: WhiteOut on June 27, 2008, 09:49:22 PM
So I got my new CB installed today, thanks Will.  I have a 3' tunable Firestik antenna and it needs to be tuned.  Does anyone here have an SWR meter that I might be able to use for the price of a 12 pack?  Thanks!

can almost buy one for the price of a 12 pack.  well worth it in the long run, antennas can change with beatings and such and you never know when they will break inside and fux0r your radio.  should be swr tested often, like every couple months or whatever.

Can you test it with a digital multimeter?

I have a SWR meter from Radio Shack that has never been used. I'll sell it for 20 bucks.

Yep, they be tuneable. Just cut off 1/2" increments to tune.

You'll like the performance of the whip, its greater than a 1/2 or 5/8 wave, needs no groundplane (in theory); I have one and its great. Still sucks for parking garages tho.

[they say] steel whips pick up more static as well but i wouldn't know, can't really test it myself.

i gues the way to do is run the steel whip for a month and  then run a different one and see if theres a difference
