I'm thinking about doing a run from South Ghost or Gravel Pit ( Lost Knife, Meadow Creek, Margret Lake or possibly the Falls) Exit through Camp Howard onto Trunk Road.
This would be a fairly long run ( not sure of conditions as I have not been out this way in a loooong while) So ....EARLY START. Leaving Cochrane
( Smittys) by 9:00am SHARP. If U want breaky be earlier. Plan on stopping for lunch ( bbq or fire ??? if no bans) Maybe see how the guys are doing on bridge work at meadow Creek....not sure where exactly this is occurring.
I would think tires and tow points a bare minimum................with extra recovery equipment preffered !! (CB or FRS radios, slings, shackles, shovel, jack, WINCH)
No one gets left behind ;)
If anyone has been out recently on these trails I'd appreciate feed back :o

Pretty sure most people will be taking part in building a bridge on Sunday ;), unless most of it gets done on Saturday :o.
-
never been there and its sound like one heck of a adventure. And considering theres no meatal for the bridge, i definitly in! i got 4f high jack, shove, axe, 250f of cable and straps, winch and a super soacker :D ill still be there saterday at the bridge too

How long is long?
are we talking an 8hr day? 10hr day? overnight campout with all our stuck rigs? LOL
-
I guess the biggest thing is going to be the trail conditions..............Lost Knife can get pretty hairy, so can Meadow Creek.....after those two the rest is pretty tame. Maybe since this will be first outting for some we should cut out Lost Knife for now and just go into meadow Creek from the Pit....That would cut the time down 2-3 hours.
As well, there is also the option that those who need to leave early could head back out to the Trunk Road when we cross the River.....So, Gravel Pit to River crossing ( 2-3hrs) River to Falls and Back (4hrs) should be out on the road by 6pm latest ( barring any major set backs) ;)

This one might be of interest. Only thing is rear tow hooks were recently removed to accommodate DrawTide hitch assembly. I have front hooks, CB, straps, etc., but no rear hooks until I explore options there perhaps utilizing the hitch receiver. I've wanted to join you folks for some time and the weather is looking sweet.

DAMMIT, this sounds AWESOME, sadly i leave for a week in Penticton on Friday (not so sadly, i need a vacation). We will have to do it again when i get back, for all those that miss it also. ;D

RedDog............Princess Auto or National 4WD! You can pick up a draw ring that will fit ur Reciever hitch at either place. ;)
-
If we finish the bridge abutments on Saturday I may be in the area wheeling on Sunday. If not then I will be at the bridge site. Most of the time my CB is on Chanel 10.
Last time we were out the trails were in very good condtion.
Have a good run.

So if we end up coming in from the gravel pit we will probably run into the group doing the bridge build.....but if we decide to take Lost Knife, then probably not........... I'm open to suggestions/preferences? ??? ???
-
me interested rubi , hopefully I am not bitting off more than I can chew as I want to take the kids camping sat overnight ... but our dog will make sure we make the 9am hookup time ...
just gotta get out there before summers over ...
may seem like a stupid question but I have been to the falls once before, entered off trunk and followed along river to left , was out there early this year and couldnt find the entry point ... it was all gated ... did a private camping company buy off that entry point ?

Hmmmmmmmmmm......I'm not sure where you went in ( Camp Howard???) But it should not have been gated there.
Anyways, we will be coming in from the back way...(leaning towards Gravel Pit) so as we can meet up with the crew building the bridge....But I was planning on going out through Camp Howard to the Trunk Road...............shorter trip home for me from there !!! ;)
ALSO........according to Sahara the trails are in pretty good shape, so it should be possible to stay out of most of the nasty Mud Holes (unless ur looking 4 them ;))

k , will chat more sunday , be great if Blair makes it as our girls hit it off at show/shine ...
will watch thread ... me excited as this run is possible ..
-
Still looking good for me. I like the guys at National 4WD and they've done me well, but I won't be down that way before Sunday morning given my location in Red Neck Deer. I'll swing by our swanky Princess Auto here and ultimately Hitch Warehouse (who set me up recently with the hitch and bike rack, but not cheaply) if I have to on Saturday to be rear-tow-point ready for Sunday. Weather continues to look great too.

This is what most people have:

A lot of Chrysler dealers sold Warn stuff too, but they aren't the cheapest!!

Bagged a beautiful setup from Hitch Warehouse. They had two or three options on hand. Cost less than I thought but it weighs a ton. One of these babies in each hand and you could train for the Olympics.

I'll be at Smitty's around 8am for breaky, topping up the tank before hand so ready to roll by 9am........I know, I know....kinda early, but I work nights so it's even tuffer on me !!! :o
-
If you are heading out to Waiporous tomorrow, please head over to the bridge build. They did not get done as much today as hoped and could DEFINITELY use some extra hands out there tomorrow
9am at the Airstrip
Thanks
-
A regular drop hitch reciever with the ball removed works fine as well.
