Title: 1994 Jeep YJ Windshield Wiper Switch
Post by: Jeepster on July 27, 2008, 09:39:20 PM
Hey everyone...
Quick question, the arm for my signal lights and winshield wiper control fell out of its slot.
I can put it back in to use the signals but it does not control the windhsield wipers anymore (just turns and turns).

How hard is it to change myself ? Does the whole steering wheel need to come off to get to it to change it to a new one ?
And how much do you think it would cost to take it in and get it fixed ?

With all the crazy storms we have been getting latley its a good idea to have working windshield wipers :)

Alot of GM parts circulated throughout the auto industry,.. I'm 99% sure this is one of them - steering column

"I believe" you just need to remove the plastic arounf the column and them you can remove/unplug the switch.

Worth a shot to alteast look anyways.

I worked with newer style GM columns,.. the YJ columns were used in older cavaliers and etc pre 90.

Looks like I am going to have to remove the steering wheel to get to it :(
I was hoping I wouldnt have to do that.

The plastic around the column is all one piece so there is no other way.

Hope I can do it myself, I havent removed one in a LONG time he-he.
Better than paying someone to fix this issues I guess.

Only prob is I dont have a puller, guess I can try and rent one.

you can buy a decent puller 3 finger for $30 - I believe at Auto valueless , CT, or princess auto,.. and it does come in handy for engine pulleys

FYI, on my dads old YJ, the release mechanism for the turn signal went.  So he went and bought the part but when he started to tear into the column he realized it was a lot of work and never changed it.  You have to pull the steering wheel, then remove stuff behind it, etc.
