Title: Another tcase difference question...
Post by: stoggy97tj on August 04, 2008, 02:29:00 PM
The transfer case i was gonna use on my 97 tj is out of a 2000 tj....

It is the same model (231 j)
But the assembly number is different.

I have a 5speed manual and the one i was getting is on an auto.
They both have the same engine.

Will the one from an auto bolt onto my 5speed?

If not does anyone know if the internals are the same?

I'm not certain but I'd imagine the auto one wouldn't have a harmonic balancer.

The t-cases will be the same the only different might be that the input gear will be different.  I believe the spline count should be the same, but the lengths might be different and therefore would have to be changed

I think one would be a 23 spline and the other a 21 spline. You should just be able to remove the end stub shaft if I remember correctly.
