Haha
i just want to get all the intell down before ALL the questions start flying.
I know your pumped that we are haveing a run at your skill level but im not shure your ready for the snow yet scott ;)
more info comming soon.................
-
Hey man, I have wheeled in snow before, I just don't like the ice
-
So I figured it was about time to have an official CJA open run. The date as of right now (unless something extremely important comes up) is Sat Jan 31. We will be meeting at the Smitty's in Cochran at 9AM for breakfast and will hopefully be on the road at 10AM. As I am leading this run I get to set the criteria, it is as follows:
- Jeeps only
-Proper front AND rear towpoints
-CB and/or FRS radios
- Proper tow strap with no metal chains or hooks on it.
- At least all terrain or mud terrain tires with min. 50 % tread.
(Please leave your bald all season tires at home)
-Extra clothes and food.
-Full size spare tire
-Jeep MUST be in good working condition prior to run
As this is a winter run there is always the potential for body or tire damage. Snow can turn to ice very quickly and it sometimes doesn't take much for a fun wheeling trip to turn on you. However, this trip would be a good experience for anybody interested and meeting the requirements that would like to learn more about the Calgary Jeep Association. This will be a good chance for everybody to learn or practice winter driving skills on some fairly easy trails. All non CJA members will be required to sign a form for insurance purposes. For safety reasons,it is best if young children wear neck support and are strapped in properly, toddlers are best left at home. We will either be headed to the falls or the lake depending on the weather conditions.
Hope to see ya there,
Lindz

that sounds like a good time to do some test out the new lift i will be there just have to get some front tow points
-
Rear tow point includes the rear tow hitch??? lol
no, seriously? I'm not sure.. I'll go dig my answer up I guess if need be... ???
-
As long as you have a good solid trailer hitch held on by at least 8 or so grade 8 bolts for this kind of run you can use it as a rear tow point in my opinion. That is what I use. I don't, however, use a hook off the end of it. I just make sure my tow strap will fit inside the reciever and use a good solid hitch pin.
-
Hmmm I have no spare tire,.... :(
-
I'm working that weekend. :-\ Not cool.
Oh well. Sometime next month I hope.
-
Sounds good Lindz. I might even be able to bring my elusive wife out!! What about mutts, are they okay to come out?
T
-
i would also like to partake in said run. i might not have a full spare yet though....... other than that the jeep will be good to go
-
Sounds good Lindz. I might even be able to bring my elusive wife out!! What about mutts, are they okay to come out?

It's the stock set-up for the GC.. used it before & imagine it has all of the above?
Will grab the pin for the hitch tho as suggested...
Where's Jeff.. I might need to make use of his winch & air again...lol ;)
-
nice to know i havent beeen forgotten .. i wish i could come but im still working and to the sounds of it wont bhome for awhile
but if im home ill be there for sure .
but all of you's be safe and ill keep watching the post
jason your jeep will do very well in the snow and your hitch is strong enough
-
As far as I can say now, I'm on.
-
I think I am in as well........um ya just have to check with the wife....hehe
-
I should be good to go, im not a member but that will give plenty of time for me to get some rear tow hooks made up.
Are front tow hooks ok?
-
Yeah, front and rear tow points are a must. Tow hooks included. ;)
-
Yeaq, front are rear tow points are a must. Tow hooks included. ;)
what is a minimum recommendation for a rear tow point? Can i get something sturdy and attached to the frame professionally rigged up by my work welder?
-
Hitch with a pin, or Modern has a couple different Hitch Clevis tow points you can look at. I picked one up, $30, and Warn makes one (same rating) for $50ish.
-
A growing number from the newly forming Red Neck Deer club are planning to hook up on Gasoline Alley and head down.
Personally, only some goofy weather silliness like minus 35 or something similar will rule me out.
-
i will try, certainly no guarantee, as have to get some stuff fixed, and maby working, but if it shapes up well i could go
-
its my 25th birthday on Saturday, so Im down. Maybe a little extension could be added for the CJA folks after we hit the end of the falls or Margret.
-
For safety reasons,it is best if young children wear neck support and are strapped in properly, toddlers are best left at home.
Ineterested to come if I can meet the criteria in time. Clarifying on above. What would be considered 'young children'? Also, what kind of neck support do you suggest for kids in this age range?
Thanks guys,
Ryan
-
I am not a CJA member but some things to consider:
Babies have a large heavy head relative to their bodies, weak neck muscles and need to have their heads supported to prevent spinal injuries. What age are they able to support their heads effectively in a jostling Jeep crossing rough terrain? Not sure on that, maybe age 3/4, assess your child's abilities. Not aware of any readily available (outside the medical system) neck supports, C-collars for babies/small children. I'd leave the babies at home.

my heavy chevys not permitted :(

Ill second that, mud ruined my XJ... :'(
-
im good to go. got my dads cb on standby just in case and a line on rear tow hook
-
my 2 Cents.
i take my baby neice wheeling all the time . since she was 4 months old little baby neck brace and rear facing seat and she was well supported .
as she is getting older and is now in a forward facing seat the NEECK brace is even more important . she loves wheeling and never has she cried because of to much rough terrain . as long as that head is held straight and of course take it easy and drive aware that there is a baby abored
on another note i brought out the GF's 5 year old and she as well was wearing a neck brace as even at 5 there little bodies are not ready for none stop motion and bumps and jerking back and forth
i do recomend if there are any kids going under the age of 5 support there necks .
what we used was one of those traveling pillows that just wraps around the neck so you can sleep better on planes and that worked like a charm
they do sell them for babys young children . just dont remember where we got mine
have fun and wheel safe
-
jeeps dislike mud ;)

those jeep things though, they can do a lot of other things to, like climb stuff, rocks, ledges, etc. oh, and they are just cooler

Awe if it wasn't for the Jeeps Only part I'd be down, but I can't seem to find a jeep that I can afford that dose not need tremendous work.
Maybe I'll see everyone anyhow...I planed to go camping around the end of the month.
Have a gooder!
-
Might be up for a run. Depends on if my buddy will let me into his shop to work on my tube fenders or not.
Do we have an approximate timeline for the run... you know, given nothing goes bad.
-
9AM at the resturant
-
Meant more how long / when we'd be done at.... But a start time's always helpful too. Have plans for that evening, but if I can't work on my fenders then my morning / afternoon would be free.
-
The weather looks to be great for Saturday. See you on the trails.
-
My current plan is to be in for this well. See you guys at Smitty's.
-
im too stock and cant find towhooks :(

Anyone have a spare jeep rim that will fit a 33x12.5? Have the spare tire, just need to buy a rim. If I can find a rim in time I'll tell the girlfriend I have to work and come wheeling all day. Good times! Just remember, it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Keep an eye out for a couple guys on bombardier 650's ;)
-
Good run today. Was excited to see the bridge that we worked on being put to use. Want to throw out a big thanks to our Trail Leader Lindz - who fearlessly took on a questionably patch of ice, broke through, and still found another path.
Was also surprised to see how well the rig does on the icy hills without lockers. Only takes a little extra spinning.
-
yes was good run, thanks for having me, and letting me ride shotgun, cant wait to fix mine now ;D
btw anyone wanna email me pics my email is [email protected] thanks.
-
Thanks everyone! Dunl and I just got back to Red Neck Deer. Great day! I learned tons and found yet more capabilities of the TJ I didn't know it had. I had a little trouble with that one long icy hill but with some good advise and Nathan's quick work on my air pressure, it was straight to the top! On the way out we came across Dom and the boys out on the road removing chains, etc. One of the Edmonton rigs blew past us around Carstairs after we'd seen them in Cochrane 30 minutes earlier.
The bad news... I came away with a larger Jeep stuff shopping list than ever.
-
Thanks for the run guys. Met a lot of great people, learned a lot as usual, didn't break anything...good day. I don't know how some of the other driver with open diffs made some of those hills. I obviously have a long way to go but glad I have a rig that can accomodate my incompetence :D
I have pics if anyone wants to send their email addy
-
Thanks for a class act all the way today, just like I'd expect from the CJA.
Great run, although it was a little tough being a passenger in a warm seat with the Willys home alone, all lonely in an unheated garaged without me.
I need to take some beer and go apologize to it for a few hours later on, me thinks..... :-\
-
Great job, Lead-foot-Lindsay!!
Had a great time, sorry I couldn't hang out with everyone at the end, had to watch the fight!! We will need to do another stocker/newbie run soon.
I didn't take too many pics, but pm me, and I'll send you the link to them.

-
thanks for the amazing day ,.
all is good when nothing breaks and everyone gets home safe.
looking forward to wheeling with all off you's in the near future
if anyone has pictures or wants pictures please PM me
-
great run today guys.thanks to lindz and nathan for a good outing. gotta love hitting overdrive in 4low to keep up to crazy trev and good ole' lead foot in front ;)
trev thanks for not sliding into me on that slick patch!
thanks for airing me up to Ryan. it was nice to run back into town with decent tire pressures!
was good to see everyone out having a good time!
-
Had fun out there, looking forward to the next run. ;D
-
You're welcome!! Not that either one of us would have had a choice in the matter.
-
Did Blair and Dom's crew hook up with you guys eventually or are they still out there? I haven't seen any posts from them yet.
-
I had a good time yesterday. Carrying good speed on the "flats" with stuff airborne in the back while keeping up with pack at the front. Sort of like rally driving on snow with trees a short crash away. When I went through the ice while surveying a solid route across the frozen river I had visions of being swept away under the ice by the current - fortunately the water was only ankle deep! My boots and gaiters kept most of the water out and I was only damp around the ankles. Losing traction, sliding backwards down the icy ruts brings back winter wheeling in an wide eyed way :o Lots of new faces, reacquainted with a few, thanks for the run.
-

Thanks for asking :)... yes, we did get back in one piece.
I posted on the member's section when I got home last night.
-
It was funny when your first foot fell through the ice.
It was NOT funny when your second one went through and you fell leaning back, as I too had visions on you sliding in and under. :o
But it was funny again when you were okay......
-
I had a great time!! I can't wait to come back down south to wheel with you guys again!!! 8)
I need to get back closer to the mountains again, the wheeling there is so different than prairie wheeling!!!
Oh and I need a better winch b!tc#... my bro fell asleep on the trails, and for the drive south and the drive back north!! May as well have come alone other than the pics (that I haven't even seen yet ) :-[
-

I have a tendency to nod off when I am not driving, as I am sure Red Dog must have noticed a few times. lol ;D
-
ur not the only one Darcy, my buddy was fallin asleep when we were stopped too hahaha
ya dan, fun times! glad u guys made the trip down. next time make ur bro drive, and u drive the trails lol. best way to do it!

Not an F'n chance in hell is he gonna drive my Jeep unless I'm unable (aka drinking or very injured) ;)
But good theory if I bring my GF along!!
