I wasn't sure what forum to put this in, so I went the 'safe route'. Usually I see something posted about this and perhaps I'm myopic, but I haven't yet.
My wife is all keen to go camping in Waiparous McLean after the May long weekend and is planning on doing lots of cleanup. I suggested she co-ordinate with the SRD, but they were confused on the phone, not knowing who was responsible for what etc. It was suggested that she contact Pitch-In, which she has. They were impressed and appear to be willing to put a bin out there and provide bags etc. in conjunction with the MD.
I was wondering if we could co-ordinate this with others that will be out there that week and am attempting to co-ordinate with the various people so we don't step on anyone's toes! Other information, such as what information to gather if we find abandoned vehicles or other larger messes and whom to give it to would be great, since I have monitored these things in the past and there hadn't been a clear protocol to follow.

Pretty strange that our idea of a vacation is going out to clean up other's messes ::) It will provide me a chance to play with some HF Ham stuff out there and more testing/checking on coverage etc. :P Hmm... well we pretty much *know* the coverage in McLean. Ah well, be too busy cleaning <lol>.

If is help required the weekend after Maylong, I'll be available to help for at least a day.. I'm camping Maylong but no where near the problem areas such as Waiparous or Mclean..

Fisher East is where I was thinking... :) I can't wait till next week... :)
Due to birthday parties etc., we are going out to McLean Monday evening. We may do a quick tour after setup to see what needs to be done and perhaps grab some easy stuff. I would think it would be Tuesday on that we'd get stuff done. I think we are planning on going in toward Fischer East to camp (haven't confirmed wth the boss). Ya can't miss the Silver '04 Rubi with the VE6PDB magnets on the doors and fairly big antennas off of the rear rack.
I'm going to try to have both Jeeps with CB (channel 10 seems to be the consensus) and Amateur (VE6RYC) going and a couple of Ham handhelds.
We're still working on the bin and bags.
Thanks for whatever help we can get out there we want to show that we can take care of our recreational areas to help keep them.

That is usually what happens. I am "guessing" there will be a clean up on the following Saturday organized amonst the different user groups. I'll be down with that...again.

Are we doing a clean up next weekend? If we do it could be a good opportunity to show the news stations in town the side of wheeling that never gets reported.

Be very careful with the media... keep them, out of it if possible. They are looking for drama to make the public react... They don't care about the good story.. I took Global out to a "not so bad spot" last year... talked about the good work we did and what's wrong with the system... It never hit the air. The lady was out with us all day taking shots... never hit the air.
I would keep them out of it... I don't trucks these guys at all .. that's my 2 cents

Unless you do PR for a living, talking to the media is probably one of the most dangerous things you can do. If it suits their purposes, they'll make your statement saying "Momma rabbit gave birth today, but only six of the ten little ones survived" out to mean "I STRANGLED four baby bunnies today! HAHAHAHAHA!" Then they'll splice together a loop that guarantees that you'll be chased through the streets by a torch-wielding mob.

there was 2 bins out there on fisher west and one i think on fisher east if my memory serves me correct but then again i am getting up there in age

i went out today and gave them a hand . They said that they were gonna stay out all week but the little dude was getting sick so that might make them come back early.
they are out on fisher east road camping on the l/h side of the road tenting

Nicky and I stayed home tonight so we both get better, but will be returning to Mclean tomorrow, Should be there until Sat night
If you are out looking for us look for the yellow tent <small northface> White canopy, and Now a tented outhouse <lol>

Reading media accounts and how many messy camp fines were handed out, is there really anything left to clean?
If there is, maybe its just items left over from the floods of 05 and 07?
i think it is fantastic you guys have organized this but i keep hearing from others that Maclean is clean?

Its alot cleaner then its been in the past years, course right now there is snow out there so Pat can't see anything. Nick and I came home so we can get better and will head back out for Friday to play.
The trailer that was lent to us was filled and SRD took a truck load as well, I dunno how far they got in the cleanup since I was taking care of nicky.
As I know more I'll report :)

Hmmm snow there was an inch I say roads where very slimey.....I wish I wasn't sick or Nick was sick, hated leaving Pat out there by himself :(

still loven sleeping in ya warm bed while poor pat is out in the middle of the woods with no wife or kids to bug him ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? then again maybe ill go join him for the rest of the week sounds peaceful and quiet out there now :P :P
