Title: $ to register and insure travel trailer
Post by: 1988 Cherokee on March 04, 2010, 02:25:33 AM
I got my 88 jeep registered and insured, $56 per month with $150 down. Plus another $100 or so for the 1.5 year registration.

Gunna look into buying a travel trailer for the XJ to live in for the summer, rather then in the XJ itself,
just wondering what people on here are paying for theirs.

Thanks

Think I pay about $35 a month for full coverage on my 26' travel trailer

The cost to register is $109.00 for a lifetime plate (any private trailer) and I pay about $400.00 per year for my 28 ft travel trailer.
The insurance cost is based on trailer length, value and wether or not it has a rubber roof. The ins. co. also advised me it will cost more if I live in it full time.

Just a heads-up that you might want to edit your Subject title. I ignored this post like 5 times before curiosity got the best of me and I just had to know what "travel travel" was. You might miss out on info from people who don't know what you meant.

Thanks for all the information.

I know the Cherokee's limit is 5k, what does that equate to in the length of the travel trailer itself?

Are people allowed to have the travel trailer hooked up to the truck, and park it legally and sleep in it or are their bylaws against that.
I wouldnt have no generator going or anything like that, just got to save cash for school.

I think the size of trailer would be very dependent on the type of hitch you have on the vehicle.

You don't have to have insurance on a travel trailer to get it licensed or tow it. You may need to advise your insurance company that you are towing a trailer and they may make an adjustment to your vehicle premium. Insurance coverage for a trailer is related to theft, collision or damage.

Great, that simplifies everything. I thought it was going to be exactly like buying a vehicle, insurance, safety, registration.

If all it is is the $100 to register and plate it to get rolling thats good news, I will want to get it safetied for my own peace of mind.

If you are going to insure it, I suggest giving RV Direct a call. They specialize in RV's and are usually a lot cheaper than a typical insurance company.

When I first insured mine, they were less than half of what my auto insurance company wanted to charge me.
