I am leading the first open trail run of the season at McLean creek ;D, and this is also my first officially lead trail run ::), so i am hoping that all goes well and everyone has a great time.
Nonmembers, This will count as an officially lead trail run, a requirement for member ship in the CJA.
I am planning on doing a combination of a couple of trails, we will be meeting at the McLean Creek store/staging area at 8:00 and heading out about 8:30 ish. Our first destination will be the gravel pit, then on to Sylvester trail to fisher west where we will take the dirt road to fisher east, head to the bridge and then to top of the world, and finally back to the store to air up. This might be a fairly long day depending on how many people come out, but our stop at fisher west will allow anyone to sneak out early if they have other commitments.
The minimum requirements for this run will be as follows:
- 31" or bigger MT or AT tread, if in doubt PM me ( MUST BE IN GOOD SHAPE).
- Proper tow points front and rear, stock tow points, aftermarket or aftermarket bumpers with recovery points.
- Full size spare also in good shape.
- Waivers will have to be signed by any non members present.
- Valid drivers license and insurance for anyone who plans to drive.
- Enough food and water for every person in your vehicle for one day.
- Full tank of gas, filling up in Bragg Creek is a good idea.
- Mechanically sound jeep, please make sure your jeep is trail ready.
Highly recommended stuff:
- CB radio
- Recovery gear
- Warm clothes and a change of clothes.
- Full jerry can of gas.
- sway bar disco's
- Tool kit, you never know what might break on the trail.
I also need members to volunteer for tail gunner and middle, and also perhaps to lead a second group if the initial group grows too big.

- Pookapotamus (Dana) Trail leader
- Brooneg (Mike)

-
Would love to make it but need to see if I can get the day off from work.
Wishing this fell on a Sunday
-
will this be a pretty easy stocker run? My friend Sadiq is very new, this will be his first time out in his jeep (YJ, 4", 33s). I dont want him to break on his first time out.

You can break on the road is you drive a piece of Junk and crap happens on the trail even on stocker run. Yes he might scratch his jeep ... it's wheeling.
it is not a stocker run either (unless you have 31" tires on your stock Jeep) ...please read the first post.
-
His rig meets requirements - he's just inexperienced. Pook has gone over the route with me and yes, he should be fine. That being said, get him to sign up for the 101 so he can learn some wheelin techniques.
-
i might be in
-
Im in, I need a Run to go towards my membership
-
If i'm not working I'll be there, I can take a second group if need be
-
I'm only sitting on 30's so I guess I'm out.

PM Pook. Tell him that alot of "31" tires" actually only measure 30" anyways... ;D
Aired down they are more like 27"
If you meet all the other requirements, I don't see what 1" difference will make on an open run
-
@ Alltornup, frenchy is right i will not disqualify you for having 30's instead of 31's. as long as your rig is capable and meets all the other requirements i see no reason not to let you join us. these open runs are about gaining experience and finding out if this sport is right for you.
now don't take this as a free tickit, the requirements are there for peoples safety and to make sure your rig is up to the challenge of the trails that the leader has chosen. and some of the requirements can not be bent in any way. tire size is one that can be bent a bit to allow newer wheelers the chance to see what a real off road trail is like and if they want to continue in this sport.
Dana
-
im excited to get out and wheel ..
just need to get home from this northern work that sucks so bad
-
@ Alltornup, ...some of the requirements can not be bent in any way...
Make sure you have the tow points, front and rear and a recovery strap, when they start bending rules it makes the others all that more important.
-
i might be up for it too if Slim is gonna take a second group i ll run tail gunner for him :-\
-
hopefully my brother will help me finish my front gears off this week .. so i can start rolling again
-
Im in. Its gonna be nice driving the 20min to McLean instead of out to waiporous.
-
Hey Dana. Thanks for stepping up and leading the run. Looking forward to joining you guys. Let me know if you need a hand.
-
I really want to go out and join you guys on a run....But I am not sure my jeep will be physically fit enough to go out. I gotta work out some issues and I dont think it will happen before may 15. I have a feeling it maybe time to park the truck and start fixing stuff.
hope everyone has a great time!
-
Thanks to slim and Offroadnewbie for volunteering to lead the second run if needed.
-
I'm in see you all there
-
We could be in for this one as well ;D
-
When & Where are you guys meeting up? I might be able to make it

Ok so far it looks like we have 24 confirmed jeeps couming out for this run. 8)
Please pay attention to the first post to see if your name is in the list and if I need to add it, or if you are not able to make it please let me know so I can keep the first post updated.
Also note that i have not added your name if you were unsure if you will be able to make it.

That's what she said.
-
;D
-
I'm angling to see if I'll be able to go. This snow is buggering my work schedule in a big way (been sitting at the airport since 11:00 this morning, watching my flight get delayed....and delayed....and delayed....) so I won't know for a while yet.
If I can make it, I'd be happy to lead a small group in order to keep each of the groups to a manageable size.
-
ill tail any group .. ill give others the chance to lead since i have lead a couple this year already
-
We should plan on another meeting at the Gravel Pit so we can get some cool pics of everyone together. The pic at www.calgaryjeep.com has 25 vehicles so we could surpass that easily.
-

count looks close to 30...........

because this happened to me on the weekend i thought i would post it here so that people would know.
a hitch is not considered a proper tow point.
in order for it to be a proper tow point you need to have a reciever shackle. this is so that we can properly connect a winch cable to your hitch. like so.
these are inexpensive and can come in many different varieties.
this one from princess auto is also acceptable.
perhaps we can get a section together on proper tow points in the frequently asked questions.
i will be checking all jeeps for proper towpoints and other general issues before we head out on sat. the main thing we are concerned about is peoples saftey and we want every one to come out and have a good time. this should be a really good run and i look forward to seeing every one on the trail.
-
Looks like I'm gunna bail on you on this 1 Pook, I have another Fire Dept. training course I need attend Saturday and Sunday

the hitch and a hitch pin is fine( Kevin and Blair )
put the loop in the hitch pin it and giver. If you need to winch off it put a tree saver in it..
Don't use the safety chain tab for recovery
-
ive yanked diesels out of some serious mud from my hitch and its not like the above
i know mine is safe and strong where do i fit in
-

is this a question jeff or a typo?
-
well i just got a call for work looks like i'll be flying out on the 15th if I get my visa in time, so i'm hoping my visa processing will be delayed until 17 or 18th haha, or else i wont be able to make it.
-
i will be there~~
-
ok so far it looks like we have 27 confirmed jeeps. :o and a bunch of unconfirmed. if you dont see your name in the first post that means as far as i know you have not confirmed if you are comming.
i was out last sat and ran the trail that we are taking, it differs from the original that i had planned but due to the snow in the mountains i have had to change it up a bit.
we will be splitting up to possibly 3 groups. remeber to please payattention to the requirements.
also due to the large number of people showing interest i will be at the mclean store about 7:30 and if you can show up early to air down and get ready please do so. i would like to leave promptly at 8:30, this will be a fairly long trail run and i want to allow people the chance to get back to the city for their other engagements or the chance to do another trail.
see you all out there!
Pook
