Well it took some time but we have managed to re-schedule the Jeep 101 course for Sept 18th.
The Calgary Jeep Association is pleased to announce the 4th annual Off-Road 101Course
This is a one day family friendly course that is open to anyone that will introduce participants to the basic skills that are necessary during an Off-Road adventure, as well as safe and environmentally friendly practices while on the trail.
Rough outline of the day:
The course will take place at the Mclean Creek off highway land use area. We will be meeting at the Mclean Creek store from 7:30 am to 8:30 am. At 9am we'll start with introduction to off roading instruction, along with various beginner obstacles to get you acquainted with your jeeps capabilities. Around noon we'll have a short lunch break ( you're responsible to bring your own lunch as well as addition food and drinks the rest of the day) Then we'll head out for a trail ride with CJA members providing instruction and support throughout the way. Please note that this is an offroading activity and there is always the possibility that damage and scratches can occur to any vehicle. The trail guides will do their best to prevent / minimize any potential damage to the vehicles, but the potential is always there.
The number of participants will be limited to 20

Entry fee: Donation to the Calgary Jeep Association Trail Fund.
**The trail fund is used to build and maintain the local OHV (Off Highway Vehicle) trail system in order to insure that future generations can enjoy it. **
Vehicle Requirements to attend
• Must be a Jeep Product that has off road capabilities
• Must have up to date Registration, Insurance and License plates
• Must have front tow points properly secured to the vehicle, rear tow point is recommended but not required
• A proper seat belt for each passenger and driver
• Must have good quality tires (no worn out and bald tires please)
• CB Radio HIGHLY recommended but not required
** Please note that an inspection will be completed to all vehicles to verify the minimum vehicle requirements are met. Vehicle that do not meet the minimum may be asked not to participant. This is for the safety of everyone **
Driver and Participants
• The owner of the vehicle must be present
• The driver must have a valid driver's license
• All non CJA members must sign a liability waver
• Must bring enough food and drinks for all participants in the Jeep. Extra food and water is always a good idea
• Clothing appropriate for the weather conditions
Drugs and alcohol is strictly prohibited. You will be asked to leave immediately and possibly the police will be contacted

Non-members are more than welcome to attend regardless of your experience, so long as you can meet the above requirements. It is a great opportunity to learn about your vehicle and how to safely and responsibly enjoy our trail system.

Hey guys i'm also new to the forum :D
Just picked up my first jeep a brand new one at that, a 2011 wrangler sport bone stock and would love to have this experience to go on this trip, ive been to waiperous a few times in other vehicles but nothing special.

The CJA Event Calendar says the date for this run is September 17th and this thread says the 18th. Can someone verify the date for this run? Also, what if we want to attend the campout etc. on the weekend of the 17th and 18th at McLean and also this run? Can we do both since they are both at McLean?

The campout is members only I believe. Unless they do non-member invites.

Will this be a different trail then last time? I'd really like to take a crack at this again with the XJ, but the sticker shock of fixing it after the last run has still left me little hesitant to go out with my stock tires and bumper.
Any thoughts on a near stock XJ on this run?

The trail has not be finalized at this point and a decision will be make closer to the date as I have a couple in mind

Also, for us non-members who would like to camp... McLean has a bunch of loops left for camping that weekend, so if anyone else is interested, we should reserve a few.

Whatever you feel the course and what you learn is worth to you, all the money goes back to the trail fund so we can do trail projects and maintenance

Would like to extend a HUGE thankyou to Scott for putting on this run today. Seemed very much like it was a success. I wish I was driving with you guys, but will be sure to have my XJ workin good for next years run to help out. I had a blast as winch wench in Rubiclone today, and it was definately good to see such a great crowd out there today!

I think all of the organizers did a great job in explaining 4x4ing to everyone and how to do it safely and enjoyably. I also think all of the participants that showed up at the beginning to receive instruction and some play time in the gravel pit learned a lot, generally followed the rules out on the trail, enjoyed themselves, and helped each other out.
A special thanks to those that helped me in the gravel pit when I tested the limits of off-camber in my JKU. I think I actually experienced greater off camber angles on the trail but perceiving that I could roll a couple times down into the pit definately increased the 'pucker factor'.
If I could make one suggestion it would be to perhaps break-up such a large group into smaller groups for the trail. I understand a lot of people want to take advantage of this great opportunity and the association wants to include as many people as possible. However, 24+ rigs on the trail seems to get spread out quite a bit and it may even impact others on the trail (getting by us as necessary).
All-in-all though, it was a great experience.

It was an awesome day , son was driving and he really enjoyed it as well. learned a trick or two myself using an axe handle between two tow staps.
communications is paramount to safty. that being said there where only five or so cb that where actually working properly. So even though it got dragged, slow going etc it was safe.

I also would like to give the CJA a big, Thank You, for the best first experience off roading any one could have. Learned lots about safety and rules of the trails. Now knowing the capabilities of my rig I will for surely be out for more runs. Thank you again and hope to see you all again soon.

:Dvery cool event! Got to know a little what my Jeep can do. Great weather, cool ride, nice people and excellent instructors. Cant wait to go for a ride again. BTW I did take some pixs and some of them are good so I will post them later on. C-YEAH! 8) ;)
