We need some help to remove the deck from the bridge on the 1-2 of October.
The removal of the steel and abutments may have to wait due to fish issues but Blair is working on that. He needs Fed Gov. approval for the fish issue.
The bridge deck will need to be disassembled and moved to the storage yard in the ghost.
We will need:
Generators, sawzalls, pry bars, hammers, drills with bits to try to remove screws, gas powered pressure sprayer, trucks and trailers to transport the wood. If we could get a few hydraulic jacks then maybe we could lift the steel part of the bridge back up the support it to be moved later. Right now they just don’t want us working or dragging things thorough the creek as it is spawning season for one type of fish.
Wear your boots, gloves, PPE
After getting so much fresh air it is also recommended to get some R&R time at camp afterwards ;D
-
Are you expecting it to take both days?
I can't make it out on Saturday, but I can on Sunday.
-
I will be there on saturday! Ill get as many tools as I can scrounge up!
-

Come on out!
If bridge work is all done, we have other stuff that we can do ;D
-
I may not be there but i do have a generator and an 18 volt cordless impactor for removing deck screws and other fasteners , available for club use.
-
What time/where we meeting on Saturday?

TRAIL PROJECT WEEKEND.
Same as Frenchy Posted + we need trucks and trailers. This should be a lot of fun. I am planing to Camp for the weekend.
The CJA is leading a Trial project in the Ghost FLUZ. October 1st and 2nd .
The bridge on Meadow Creek trail is damages and we are going to disassemble the bridge deck to allow us to work on relocating the bridge to a new location to be reinstalled next year. This will be labour intensive. We need crews to disassemble the deck and crew to transport lumber to a storage area. Those working on the project should ware proper personal perfective equipment.
Tools needed: Prey bars, drills with screwdriver bits, saws-alls, and generators. Who has what?
We also need several trucks or 4x4 off road trailers to transport the lumber. What can you bring to help?
Some of us plan on camping for the weekend to work on this. Camping info and meeting location will be posted later in the week.
Cheers,
Blair
-
I plan to camp, and will have a generator, drill, sawzalls, hand tools. None of my drills are hammer drills.
-
We are camping at the Waiparous group camp (old air strip). It is past the campground on the west side of the road. Other campgrounds are on the left.
Meet there and if we are not there, we will be at the Meadow Creek bridge.
Andy - can you and I arrange for me to pick up your gen? I have sawzall, hammer drill etc. that I will bring. Going out Friday after work.
-
We will be there too (4 of us)... will bring hammers, sawzall, drills, pry bars. We'll be camping, as well.
-
Oh, and we also have a hammer drill, but it's corded... if someone brings a generator that we can plug into.
-
Both wood and steel bits for saws-alls would be helpfull.
Thanks to all that have said they are comming. The more the easier the work.
-
Who has a generator large enough to run power tools for this project on the weekend?
Please post up if your are bringing one and how large.
-
Just making arrangemants with kevin to pick up mine as I am away this weekend. I think mine is 1500 watts continous and 1800 surge or 1800 continous. I will check tonight.
Most hammerdrills are right around 6 amps and some of the better sawzalls are up to 13 amps. So mine will run two drills or one sawzall.
-
2000 watt generator.
GPS coordinates for the bridge?
What time you starting work on Saturday?
-
I think we should meet at the Air strip and then go to the work site on meadow creek... (how about Meet at the air strip for 9AM?)
Bonnie and I are bringing my little flat deck trailer, drill, sawzall, blades and #2 robersson bits (the squared tip)... I can pickup a generator if need be (andy?). I might have more room Kev... you call.
The decking is covered with dirt and mud from truck/Quad crossing... Last time I went to check it out; I couldn't see a damn screw. All the screw holes were fill with crap.
... That might be a challenge if we don't pressure wash it before... any other idea?
-
BURN it huge camp fire . :) then pull the metal the next day
oh wait this is supose to be tree hugger friendly scrap that idea ahhahaha
i think pressure wash would be the best bet to get to the screws but i still think itll be hard to get most of them out
-
There is a way to cut the screws with a sazall. You need a long metal cutting blade like 9 inches or longer. You slide it under the wood or between the two pieces under power. You do not cut the wood just slide it between with power on and cut the screw. you may have to pry it up a little just to slide the metal cutting blade in there.
power wash the deck. then
try to undo the screws with impactor or hammer drill. then if that does not work then sazall the screws using pry bars.

Sounds like a plan. Who has a gen unit that is large enough to run the power tools?
-
My gen should run 1-3 power tools no problem.
Something about small pressure washers - I dont believe they self prime. Maybe.. I know the electric one I have wont.
Edit: I had to adjust carb for altitude on last use.. Its used to running at sea level..
-
are you coming out Jeff?
im not sure yet .. lots on the go . im supose to finish justins jeep on saturday .
but if we get it done then theres a good chance ill come out saturday night . and camp then help sunday
-
An airless painting machine is self priming. suction hose in a five gallon pail of water. Not a lot of volume but all you need is for the screw holes and they usually run higher pressures then power washers. How much mud build up is on the deck? if you have just a coating it will work but if it is like a 16 th on an inch or bigger you will be there all day and a powerwasher would be better.
-
So if I'm coming out on Sunday should I just meet up with everyone in the AM at the air strip? Is that just further north than the normal meeting place?
-

frack Justin's Jeep... you need trails to run your Jeep and we need your help brother ;D

-
that would be fantastic man...
my pooches will be there ... there is no heavy machines ...
Cheers Jeff!

Hmmm... If I get my jeep done I'll haul it out there sunday. If we can score that trailer jeff...
That way I can test the jeep and haul crap with my stupidly long truck and flat deck.
Very tentative.
-
Well i was planning to come out but working is not letting me take the days off. Good luck out there and safe a project.
Anton
-
i can score that trailer no problem .. just have to give buddy the beer you owe him
-

And more of it!!

If the deckiing is put down with regular screws or nails and not with lags then save yourself plenty of time and effort by just cutting holes in the decking material in between the stringers and either lever action them up with a 2x4 or other long lumber, or simply hook the winch cable to a couple at a time and pull.
They won't come out with a drill and a sawsall is a pain. Have fun out there.
-
Looks like 15 Degrees Sat. and Sun. Not too hot to work, not too cold and no mosquitos. Might be the last nice weekend to get out for some camping.
Thanks Blair for leading this project!
Unfortunately I cannot make it as I will be out of town.
I will however still donate some time.
I know we have a lot of newer folks in and around the club who have not yet commited to coming out for this project.
We need help on this one.
For you and for our trails I'll offer this...
You go out and do my share of the work and I'll work on your Jeep. Engine Oil change, brakes, diff fluid, rad, winter tune-up, etc.. Engine / tranny swaps might be pushing it :)
Or maybe you just want an IOU for some heated garage time this winter if you don't need anything right now...
Sign up for the project here, PM me what you need so we don't clutter up this thread with off-topic stuff.
PS. We have enough free camping space for many more people, plenty of space even for those that want privacy instead of a group camp .
-

For those coming out later... The image shows where the bridge is... in the red circle. Come in at marker 95. Super easy drive in.

Actually would make very short work of relocating the bridge (in one piece)

due to an unforeseen circumstance Bonnie and I will not be coming this weekend. Be safe out there.
-
The project is changing slightly now... last minute changes from the government.
Bring shovels, picks, chainsaws, and recovery gear as well.

A 330? That's kinda...dinky sized isn't it? If someone wants to pay the move fee of $7500 we can use my 385C L. Might have to widen the trail a little though it's 3.5m wide...

Looks like maybe rain for the weekend, if my job shuts down because we can't climb the ramp I'll boot out there.
-
We have had a change of plans. ASRD has asked us not to remove the bridge deck this weekend as it is a sensitive fish spawning season. We will be camping and will have several smaller trail projects to work on.
Revised tool list:
Chain saw – with PPE
Shovels
Rakes
Pick
Hammer
Utility trailer or truck to move some stone.
We have a vehicle to remove from a trail and some trail maintenance work, re-signing a trail, draining some holes and repairing a pole drain that has washed out. There may also be some more in depth survey work to complete on a proposed bypass. All good projects and the camp site is booked and paid for so bring your tools and let’s have a great weekend camping.
-
Please bring any hand held CBs or walkies if you have them.

Im sorry I cant make this project, but my brothers wedding is tomorrow, so i kinda have to be there :P
However, I do have 2 handheld CBs that I can lend you Kevin if you need some. Just text me if that would help ya out. I will be in your area today so I can just drop em off.

I can bring out a bobcat and a deck tow truck for the weekend if needed.

First post and offering a bobcat!
First for that account, but not really his "first" time ;)
Great to see ya back in the game Ken!
-
I planned on coming out but I am not able to make this one, I'll probably be around to help remove that Bronco from Mclean whenever that gets booked.
Hope everyone keeps safe and has a good time tomorrow.
-
If anyone is heading out sunday october 2, they need 1 1/2 inch roofing nails for the project! Thanks to whomever can do that for them!
-
That was a great weekend.
THANK YOU TO ALL THE VOLENTERS THAT CAME OUT. We had members from several clubs that came out and helped. A particular thanks to the Toyota Club that provided a large part of the labour for the pole drain project on Saturday. Great job everyone.
-
Thanks guys for a great weekend... it's great to be able to work hard, play hard and do some good for the trails all in one weekend. Looking forward to the next project!
-
I really enjoyed saturday, I can't wait to help pull that pickup out! Hope sunday went well. It seems people are getting home ok! Thanks again for an awesome day, and the new pin stripes look fantastic!
-
T'was a great weekend. Thanks to those of you who came out. A BIG thanks to those Yota boys (and gals), the pole drain project went quickly. Ron, Loren, Kevin from the Land Crusiers and myself yanked an upside down pickup out to the road. Way to go Jeep train!
SRD also let us go find another truck that was used to roast marshmellows. It is slightly charred. Could not get that one out, but we now know where it is.
-
Here are some pics....
-
thats a pretty new ford ..
\good job boys
-
GOOD JOB now i think its 5 or 6 trucks pulled out of the bush and one camper.
-
It's very normal for Cja and any other group of trucks to pull out garbage that is left behind
By those idiots that like to distroy out play grounds.
And then we leave it on the side of the road for the government to do some thing about it and they leave it there for months
Oh well makes for a fun day dragging someone sales trucks or cars out on the roof
-
Hello Everyone!
My name is Ryan and I actually do not own a Jeep...I do how ever have a number of friends with them :D I currently drive a 2006 Toyota Tacoma and am a member of CT4WD. I was lucky enough to be involved with helping you guys out on this day of trail repair and recovery which hopefully happens more often. (Our clubs working together)
Anyhow I am looking to get in contact with Blair and at the same time think its important to keep a line of communication between all of us open. So for any of you that needs to get a hold of any of us just ask. For now could I ask Blair to contact me as soon as possible!
Tread Lightly,
Ryan

Blair is 01sahara on here. Send him a PM... he's a pretty busy guy.
