There will be a CJA sanctioned run in Waiparous on New Year's Day
The focus of this run is to be stocker-friendly. We will have a group headed up to Margaret lake - 100% family friendly and open to as many people as we can.
Requirements:
Good MT, AT, or winter tires, and be prepared to air down to 15 psi please. (NO MINIMUM TIRE SIZE)
Full sized spare tire.
Good front and rear tow points.
Lots of warm clothing, and a change of footwear for everyone in the vehicle
Lots of food and water for everyone in the vehicle
Patience and a good attitude - we will be moving at a speed that is comfortable for the slowest member of the group
Good Ideas:
Recovery Strap
Shovel
CB Radio
Something to cook over a fire at Margaret lake if the weather is good.
I will be leading the run, and Apeman will be tailgunner. If there are other members that would like to volunteer, we can line people up to mid-gun, and perhaps lead/tail-gun a more challenging group if we have a big turn-out.
We will meet at Smitty's for 9AM. Please have a full tank of fuel and be ready to roll when you show up.
-
I should be good for this, you can put me in the middle, or tail whatever if we break into groups.
Family is still in town visiting, runs looks like a no go for me.
Ok scratch that, visiting family Is coming with, still available to help with stockers
-
CB Radio is a good bonus, i will run tail gunner as i usually bring spare shafts, parts, and tools plus, looking forward to seeing everyone out for a great start to the new year.
-
If I make it back from the boxing day trip in one piece would like to join in on this on.

Try not to celebrate "TOO MUCH" with wine the night before ;)
-
If the wife is stuck working, I will be there.
-
Well finally i am free and have time to get out. need to get the CB up and running again.
Would be nice to have some fun again.
Anton
-
I may be out for this one. Does it have to be a jeep? I may have my blazer ready to go by then.
-

Fixed it for you.
Remember who you are dealing with here

About the only vehicle I will have thats wheelable right now is my Ranger ;)
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :( Just promises of axles that would fit my XJ... One of these days I will again have the Jeep workin :D
-
I should be in.
Is there a meet-up time and place?
Thanks,
Jeff
-
I'm in on this. Should have the new bumper and winch on by then.
-
I should be in for this one
I will lead a second group if need be

-
I'd like to make it to this. Just dont have a cb yet. Just put an m8000 on the bumper tonight. Ok?

-
Just got the jeep a month or so ago so not ready to wheel yet. be cool to meet some people and talk jeep for the newproject I do have my superduty though is it possible to tag along or is it jeep only? Thanks
-
I'm just wondering where we meet up and what time it would be that we meet? Looking forward to seeing everyone there.
-
Corbitto,
I am running solo in my Jk if you want to call shotgun. I can meet you at Smitty's and I think you can leave your vehicle there for the day. Let me know.

I'm going to suggest that riding shotgun might be better. The problem with a full-size that's not set up for wheeling is that if you do get stuck, it's very hard for the smaller and lighter vehicles to get you un-stuck.

First post updated - we're meeting at Smitty's at 9 AM. Please stop to fill up first, and then come on over to Smitty's.

maybe i will jump in shotgun. my truck is an 11 superduy with 6" lift and 37" superswampers. rear locker. goes pretty good in the mud i have played in but havent really tried out the deep snow yet. would air down for sure.
-
I would be more worried about the ice on the hills then the deep snow.
-
yes what i do know is ice and swampers are not friendly lol

No need to be sorry :). Your post made me realize that we hand't specified the time and place, so I went and did that. Thanks for the reminder.
Yes, Smitty's in Cochrane. We almost always "circle the wagons" there before we do open runs in Waiparous.
-
I'll be there, have to try some new toys out.
-
So looks like my plans for getting a compressor for the jeep got crushed again! . I Hate doing this again but i hope one of you folks would be able to land some air in the end of the trip for the drive home.
Thanks allot.
Anton.
-
I am hoping to be there.
-
Don't mean to be one of those guys but I gotta ask. I don't have the cash for a full size spare 35", January will bring more goodies. Can I still squeeze in with you guys? TJ Rubi on 35s. This is a kiddie ride and I want to take the pregnant wife out for a first time. Something like this soft ice cream ride should be just right; pending on the hill condition up to the lake.
Will take no for answer and catch the next trail project instead.

It was stated to have some thing to cook over fire. Do we need to bring fire wood?
-

It's an optional - both bringing something for over the fire, and bringing wood. There's not a ton of deadwood sitting around at Margaret lake - it's already been picked over pretty good, but I'm sure that we could scrounge something up while on the way if the consensus is that we do want to have a fire.
-
Sounds good. Now I know how u guys do it. See u all at 9. Happy new year.
Anton
-
i might come out for breakfast if i am up and around... no wheeling yet though still need to get front two hooks and some chains...

PASSENGER SEAT AVAILABLE FOR ANYONE WHO IS INTERESTED FOR THIS RUN...
For anyone who wants to go on this run but doesn't have a ride: I am offering my passenger seat. If interested, please pm me. I am driving a 2007 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon with a 2.5" OME lift. So, I may go on a more challenging trail run if that is available depending on what happens at the driver meet-up.
I just ask that you dress for the conditions including extra clothing just in case, and that you bring enough food and water for the day. As usual, no alcohol on run per CJA rules and no smoking in my Jeep. I am NOT asking for any fuel money etc. Just come along and enjoy the ride (if we get stuck I might ask you to hook-up the tow strap/winch cable as necessary).
I will be at Smittys for breakfast at about 8am.
Thanks,
Jeff
-
we will see how i am feeling not going out the night before but have a curfew have to be in by( legal related)... so cant get stuck out there....
-

I think if we get enough rigs we can look at doing two runs. I would love to do the more challenging run but will help on the sticker run as mid gunner it tail gunner if needed.

Chances are there will be a split in the groups, judging by the size, but thats a descision that will be made by the coordinators/trail leaders.
Unfortunately, you need to be a member to be lead/mid/tail gunner, on a CJA run event. This run should count towards said membership.
See y'all at breakfast tomorrow.
-
Can't make it. Wife's sick.
-
Cant make it either... Louise is callin my name.
-
Updated:
Definitely looks like we'll be breaking into two groups. So far we've got myself, Apeman, Comanche Killer, WhiteOut, and Silverfox that are experienced members that have volunteered to take on lead/mid/tail responsiblities. WK2008 has volunteered, and may have a CB installed in time to help out.
I will bring waivers, but it's be great of everyone could bring a pen or two with them. We invariably seem to have the trail leader's pen freeze up or run out of ink when we're signing waivers. ???
Okay...so far here's who we have:
W Squared
Apeman (Tailgunner)
NuxJr
Anton
Rubicon13
Hornblower
Comanche Killer
Homeguy
Silverfox
Thayer03
Whiteout in a ZeeJay with a Toyota logo
FlatLanderJeep
Asia
Delco21
Knox
WK2008
Maybe:
AstraX
Vinman
Jrama
JPThing
heep-a-lop
Dirt Addiction
Meeting is at Smitty's in Cochrane for 8AM if you wanna have breakfast at Smitty's. We will be meeting in the parking lot a 9AM to check with folks to make sure that we're meeting all of the requirements, sign waivers, and possibly break into two groups. Please have all your advil, beef jerky, sunflower seeds, cigars, and a full tank of fuel on board before you arrive at Smitty's. ;)
-
looks like i wont be out for this one as i still haven't fixed my t case leak in the blazer.
-
I'll see you guys for breaky at 8:00
-
Will be there as long as I can get my driveshaft in and get my tag alongside up in time. Likely meet u all for 9am! Look forward to getting the Waggy out!
-
I'll have my (Simons) swr with me
Thanks Knox I hope it will show good readings on the cb. See u all in the new year.
-
sorry guys didnt feel like getting up this morning.... next time for sure and hopefully by then i will be wheelable... try these crushers out....
-
Thanks to Wsquared and all those who made this run possible. I had a great time.
-
Great run guys!
Now, I have some idea of what it is like to luge frontwards and backwards! LOL. Although, I think the guys on the luges have more control... Getting into reverse on the way down backwards definately helped slow me down and gain some control. Thanks for the great advice guys!
Also, I now have an excuse to get new fenders and maybe even a V8 (we'll see how changing out the spark plugs work to get my sixth cylinder back). I was definately lacking power on the ride home.
Look forward to the next open run!
Jeff
-
Well how do i start. First of all, thanks for the great run, it was my first winter off roading and again it was the best ride ever had. I think I am in love with winter off roading, thank you all for the great spotting and advices that I had. I was in pretty scary spots and I thought that's it we are going to flip! but again with all the instractions that I had in the past rides and this one I did not panicked and knew what to do. I never experienced sliding sideways down hill on a jeep and you guys walked me though it with no problems.
I would love to become a member and wheel with you guys as much as i can. Can't say how much i am thankful for the great group we had.
Can't wait for the next run..
Thanks again
Anton
-
Well, this really sucks...went out and started the jeep up first try and it us running perfectly again... no v8 in the near future... ;) :P Definately going to change out the spark plugs though.
-
Don't put e3's in it. I tried that once. 2 cylinders were misfiring with in 200 kms.
