Title: Sunday june 26 newbies welcome
Post by: TJ54 on June 17, 2005, 09:37:56 PM
If any one is interested Sunday June 26, Smitty's 8 leave at  9

I am thinking Lost knife, 4 corners, margaret lake, then on to the falls,  Start up a fire, roast some hot dogs

This would be an easy run, perfect for the first timer, but could make it little more challenging depending on who shows up..

Regular CJA rules, tow hooks etc.  Not an official cja run, so open to everyone,

Post here if you're interested.

Ian

Post by: RUBI on June 17, 2005, 10:33:21 PM
You will never make the falls........unless your'e planning on a KAYAK  There is so much water out there right now, and have you seen all the snow up at the higher elevations !! We have not had this much rainfall in 10 years !!  But ........I'de sure like to get out and play in the mud. Snorkel and fins may be manditory. I'll keep watching the posts , cause I'de like to get out again with you Ian, maybe I can repay the couple of pulls you gave me to get outta the mud

Being that June 26th is next weekend... might have a chance of drying up by then if the sun in the forecast for tomorrow and on holds out.   That being said if this weekend's fun goes well I might be in.

4" lift and 33x12.50 TrXus MT's here I come.... woooohoooo.

Nope haven't started yet... I like to live on the edge.  Starting tomorrow morning and hoping to drive the Jeep to work Monday ;)  Nothing like a little pressure to motivate!
Title: Too late ??

  I know this is REALLY short notice.......but I gotta get out of the house. Thinking, maybe goin out for a little jaunt out to Waiporous and see how much water is out there...............ANYBODY ??

Title: YEAH.......to late
Post by: RUBI on June 19, 2005, 08:53:26 AM
K......so to little to late, not enough peeps for a ride. Conditions like this out there , one would need to have at least several rides.......preferably with winches, or at least a good set of MUD tires   Thinking I'll just wait till Sunday when Ian is headed out .

Post by: TJ54 on June 19, 2005, 07:15:10 PM
Yeah ok

kayaks are optional. :)

My idea was to put on a run for those of you lurkers that have thought about coming out to see what your jeep could do. I have talked to quite a few people in parking lots and stores who know about the CJA but just haven't made it out yet.
I would like to make it a fun run, avoiding mud and difficult sections as much as possible. If you have decent AT's or mud tires come on out, Since it will be muddy, all season tires such as GSA's will not work so well, and it could be a frustrating day of getting stuck for you, but I certainly don't mind giving you a tug to get unstuck
I have several frs radios I will bring along, so if you don't have a cb that will be ok for this run. But again you must have front and rear tow hooks.
The route we take will depend on the conditions when we get out there. With the warm temp's expected it should dry up some.

Title: Back on stock tires
Post by: thunderstruck on June 20, 2005, 01:49:35 PM
I'm interested but I put my stock tires back on to move out here and sold the 31s back east. There is raind in the forcast for saturday and sunday. If that changes and it drys up some I come along. Never been wheeling with stock tires though. I'd like to meet some locals though.

Well maybe I'll have a job by then and I'll buy some new shoes.

Cheers

Love to go on sunday Ian, and meet some of the new folks around here.  But for once I have a good reason NOT to go wheelin - I'll be in Las Vegas on sunday. (ok, ok, I usually never post if I can't make a certain event, but I just wanted to rub it in a little)

Have fun, be safe and stay on the trails!!

Boooooooooooo

Take it from one who knows, never play Roulette at the 4 Queens Casino downtown. Especially if the dealer has a limp, and the pit boss has an eye patch. Lets just say the wheel was against me that night.

Have fun, stay safe, and here's hoping you come back with both kidneys! Cause from the sounds of things, you still need them!

Thanks for the advice Chris, but why were you in a place called "The Four Queens".  I plan of staying far away from that place.  I'll be in New York, New York blowing my rear-locker money on Muay Thai's and Roulette.  Have a fun trip in Waiparous, and yes, I definitely need BOTH of my kidneys, because the LIVER IS EVIL, IT MUST BE PUNISHED!!

Title: curious
Post by: RUBI on June 21, 2005, 04:32:15 AM
So, depending on who shows up and with what kind of set up they are running.............would you say we may split the group up ?? Just curious, as I was kinda thinking about maybe splitting off at Marget lake , then heading back in on Cabin Creek towards Hunter Valley way. Last time we were out that way it was a pretty good run , but probably to much for a stock rig   I'de like to plan on stopping for a proper lunch......build a fire, cook some steaks, sit down and relax for about a hour or so.....this is what I come out for R & R and some good wheelin !!!

That sounds fine to me, Rubi, fire for lunch,  Should we bring along our own wood, the wood out there will probabaly be prettty wet., if every one brought along a chunk of dry wood, that would help start the fire quicker, what do you think?
We could split into 2 groups at lunch, if we need too. I am fine staying with the stockers.

8) COOL........I don't like to step on peoples toes, some have bigger feet than mine !!  As for the fire thing.....I carry a chain saw with me at all times and can start a fire under water if need be ( gasoline + match = instant fire )  So, anyways any and all that are planning on heading out from Airdrie, or there abouts, we are planning on meeting at Tim Hortons (West ) @ 7:30 , then heading for Cochrane from there.............SEE YOU THEN.  DO we have a head count yet ???

Good call!

I would personally say "Lets play it by ear"; head out, see what conditions the trails are in, and make our decision then. I don't want to go into a spongy mud field. But some higher elevation trails that get lots of sun would be pretty good.

Anyhoo, lets see how the weather cooperates, and keep an eye on the bridges.

Cheers

Cochrane Smitty's at 8 for breaky , leave at 9 sharp, gravel pit by 10 am for those that want to meet us there.

If we get another day or two like today, that should dry it up quite a bit by sunday, forecast looks good.
If it rains much, we will re-evaluate the run on sat. night.

You can get a stock rear hook from jeepstuff and mount that in. They are cheap and tough. If yours doesnt have one, you'd have to drill one hole in the frame.

Really simple to do.

Since it will be muddy, there is a good chance you will get stuck, if you don't have a tow point. How will we get you unstuck.?
If the person behind you gets stuck how will you help him get out, sometimes the trails are narrow and no one will be able to get by to help.

Safe front and rear tow points are a must.

gum boots and a shovel are a good idea too :D  :D

Better fumed off than fumed on

thats too bad Kris we will seeya later, I am usually in red deer once a month or so I will call you when I head  up next.

I am in for sure rain or shine

Slight change in plans, since the Airdre group is coming into Smitty's due to the water valley closure and Kris can't make it,  Lets air down and group up at the south loading station instead of the gravel pit. that will make it easier to do lost knife.

8:00 breaky at smitty's
9:00 leave Smitty's
10:00 south loading station

If there are enough of us, we will probably do the morning together and have lunch then split into two groups one for the easier run and one group for a more challenging afternoon run.
Talking to people at National today it sounds like there could be a large group of us, my count is at least 12.

Just checked gas in Cochrane Saturday night

83.9 posted,  minus 3 1/2 =  80.4 cents litre

How do you get an elephant into a safeway bag?

First take the "f "  out of  "safe"

Then take the "f" out of "way"

Why do you think I mentioned FRS radios :)

I tried fixing mine, but it still seems to squawk, I am thinking it might of got some mud in it somehow.
I am bringing my cheap meter,( don't want the expensive one bouncing around all day) but tuning cb antennas can be a tricky business and can take a while, so I might not be able to do too many.

Nope I wasn't there. Yep got the seal it. I'm not sure it was the seal. I think it might be the output. For some reason it looked kinda worn where the seal is supposed to seal on the yoke. Either way I don't think it will be any worse.

Post by: RUBI on June 25, 2005, 11:36:33 PM
Not sure if they make one or not.........but I know you can get speedy sleeves for crankshafts and such.........so maybe ??  Slides over existing shaft end and restores to original dimension or slightl larger. (READ) cheap fix

Well I was gonna come but after the emergency vist to the dentist Saturday evening and the removal of 4 wisdom teeth and the fact that the pain killers aren't working I don't think I could handle bouncing around in the jeep all day

Steve

Anybody wanna go next Sunday :?:
