Trying to make an official thread, with lots of notice. I have finally booked some time off and I get a weekend. Sooo... Whichever gets more interest.
Lets say a nice 930 am leave cochrane for trail (meet at smittys for breakfast 8:30-9)
Requirements will be as always;
Good attitude
Lots of food and fluids.
Extra clothes, socks and undies ;)
Tow points
Good tires (size not really important, it's wiapourus).
Recovery equipment
Cb (would be nice) frs minimum
Good working HEEP.
Also, maybe interest in a wienie roast at 1 ish at margret lake?

Love it. Your first post is to go wheeling. I like you already. Get yourself a tow strap that's all. Your tires are just fine as long as they're not bald. It's winter wheeling and gonna be a blast. It won't be hard at all great for a newbe as there is only 2 trails open at this time of year and easy, easy. That's why I'm wondering about a wienie roast for lunch. Good food, good BS. It's gonna be blast.

A tow strap with loops on each end.... no metal hooks.
I would suggest NOT buying anything right now. You are going out with well equipped individuals. See what they have.... then buy :-)

This is starting to look like its going to be an epic run ;). But still nobody is saying anything about the hotdogs/food. Fat is where it's at people. Should I buy LOTS of hotdogs/burgers/salads?? Who's bringing cooking equipment/tables?

I really want to try to make this run, it will be my first as well waitaing on some parts should be installed by then unfortunately no cb but may want one after this run and may need help installing it as wireing is not my fortay! :)

Hmmm not sure if princess auto has changed their stock line, but I have been running there d-links for a few years with no bends or breaks.
but I always say of your not comfortable with something then don't do it.
Have you tried looking at Mopac on 16th? There are not to many options in the north as far as offroad/emergency equipment shops to my knowledge, Although I have see D-Shackles at walmart and Canadian tires in the past, try calling a few.

pulled the OPDA and gear on both that unit and the Cam gear are badly worn. So I've ordered up the following.
Stage 1 Cam kit from 505 performance :)
New OPDA assembly - Dorman Camshaft Synchronizer
New ultralow profile head gasket
Debating whether or not to do new aluminum rockers as well...

Yes. It seems like it'll be a good day. BUT nobody is showing any interest in a wienie roast. I'd buy the hot dogs, but I need to know how many to buy and who maybe could spring for buns? And who could bring wood/stoves? You know the basics. Come on guys post up only one week away.

lol well its defin itely cracked. last week i was watchingthe crack spread in the morning on the way to work. saying ahhh come onnnnn. stopppp hahahaha. need to find a cb though any suggestions? dont need top of the line but good quality is fine

My last new Jeep was a month old when I took it on its first run, came back looking like sonebody took a garden rake down both sides (definitely was not a newbie trail).
It was the result of that run that I determined wheeling was waaaay more fun once you stopped worrying about the paint.

Johnny and Vince are TRYING to scare you a little. This is going to be an easyish run even for a newbie. Snow usually makes things softer and easier on the rig, more challenging and fun though.
Now they are right though. Now you have gone through and put a winch and 33s on. Why would you do that if you wouldn't take it off road? That's called a poser, a pavement princess. I'm NOT saying you're a poser. Its just not practical to modify a great riding vehicle for off road for nothing. It's a jeep it's not supposed to be PRETTY or CUTE. Now with that said its good to be a little nervous, but trust me in the end it's worth it. I would really like to see you there.

There is always the possibility of damage to by our jeep when taking it off road.
As buki said, this will be an easy run and the odds are that you won't even get a scratch. If you are concerned or unsure of what to do or how to handle a stretch of trail, stop and ask. There will be some very experienced drivers out there who will be more than happy to assist.

I feel a lot better, im not afraid of scratches more scared of expensive damage lol but im sure ill have fun I use to go quading offroad all the time just never in a vehicle lol im excited tho

Hey this may be a rookie question but do you guys air down your tires ? If so how much?

You bet... how much really depends on your rims (width too) and tires and who you can bribe to help fill up them up at the end of the run. Looks like you have some pretty large rims for 33's. I would say try 16-20 psi with that set up? Anyone else got some insight?
I would go down 12-15 psi with 16" rims (10 wide) on 35's. With beadlocks, 4 psi is the bomb :-)

You don't need any special tools to air down your tires; just a gauge. Airing them back up is the harder part! Small 12v compressors can be had for cheap but are designed more for emergencies as they'd take a long time to fully refill all 4 tires. I would love to take a look at some more serious OBA setups if some members have something installed. Pretty cool, but overkill for me.
Unfortunately I doubt you're going to able to refill with nitrogen if you air down, but mixing in some atmospheric air shouldn't really be a dealbreaker :)

It's getting closer to the date people. Only 2 more sleeps. So as this is an Official CJA run there are protocols to follow. No alcohol or drugs on the trail please. There will be waivers to sign at smittys. Family friendly so let's try to act like adults, leave the trail the way we found it. You know the common sence kinda stuff. Being loud and obnoxious OK. Come on who am I kidding I'm the loudest one here. Nobody can out obnoxify me :-[

Note: I have purchased 72 hot dogs and cheese. I don't know how many people will be attaining. So extra food is always welcome. If anything you should always have stuff to munch on for the trail anyways. Also food cooking stick doohickeys I only have 3. And bring your own water/pop.

I woke up this morning and had a panic attack. I saw pic's of what its like out there and my Hubby says " I don't think your tires are that great for the snow/mud out there." In the back of my head I had this little voice saying all week "your tires suck your tires suck". Jumped in the Jeep ran to the conner Tire shop and they are now scrambling to put 33's on. I had stock bridgestones that are 3 years old.
Down side, I didn't get the rims I wanted had to make due. My poor jeep is going to be sneezing.
So once my tires are done, I will be getting the 72 Hot Dog buns.

Great group of people and an impressive turnout.
Can't thank you guys enough for all the tips and more than a couple of pulls... Without you guys I would never get an opportunity to try something like this. Learned a lot today!
As a total newbie I wasn't sure what to expect... and if I had understood the conditions beforehand, I almost certainly would have chickened out haha. Thanks for having me along!
I'm still sort of shocked that my poor grocery-getter WJ (yeah, I'm *that* guy) survived any of that at all... I don't think I have ever put a vehicle through so much abuse in one session and then driven it home.

Come on buddy mines WAY nicer than his! Mines built with style...
I had some issues with the hill just after the large hill where it has a quick turn to the right. I slicked that up nicely.

I remember doing that a few years ago.. and recieving rude remarks from someone riding with us that wasn't even driving a Jeep on that run... Your upping the game in a sense ;)

i would like to thank every one for showing me a good time, we all show some nice jeeps that day,
i wish i never broke, that steering pump lol. it took out my fan and belt , about ten minutes from where i was staying,
i would love to do it again with you guys, love how it was done and how great you all work together
