Title: 2014 Calgary Jeepers for Vets Food Bank Drive
Post by: GigaPig on November 16, 2014, 02:21:43 PM
Ok... got things somewhat organized now. :)

2014 Calgary Jeepers for Vets Food Bank Drive
December 13, 2014 at 10 a.m.

The idea is to have as many Jeep owners as possible meet at McMahon Stadium (the center parking lot just off Crowchild Trail) and then drive as a convoy to the Kensington Legion to drop off any donations.

I've got the approval and support of the Canadian Legacy Project for this, and all food donations will go to the Veterans Food Bank.

For more details and ongoing updates, visit the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/jeepersforvets (https://www.facebook.com/jeepersforvets)

It would be fantastic to get TONS of Jeeps out for this so please Like and Share the Facebook page with your Jeeping friends.

Steve

PS: I like the Toy Run idea as well and I'm looking forward to seeing more details on that, too.

What time do you think this will finish at?  That day I have to load up a haul.

Thanks Steve for posting this up.

I've split this out into it's own topic so we can discuss the why's and where for's of this particular event.

I encourage everyone to get behind this as it's a great cause and a good excuse to get a bunch of jeeps together!

Excellent, thanks for bumping this into its own thread!

I'm guessing we should be done by 11:30 at the latest. The plan is to leave McMahon at 10:30, and it's not a long drive to the Kensington Legion from there.

I've also got a website up and running (for those who don't have Facebook accounts).

This was a pretty good event!  The legion was very hospitable to everyone with the coffee, treats and singing :)

That was a good event, good turnout, and the Legion was very welcoming.
Great to see all those jeeps out there doing some good.

So what's the plan for next year? More jeeps, maybe get the police to escort so we can stay together in a continuos group through the lights?

Well done, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone! Stay safe!

Absolutely :)

I did contact the police in advance but didn't have a good estimate on numbers; I'll find out more info on what kinds of numbers they'd need to officially escort us.

Ditto for sponsors -- even if we only doubled the count of participating Jeeps next year, I would think that's a good number of people to market your business to.

It would be great to get a bit of a Show & Shine thing happening as well, with some sponsored prizes. There were some awesome Jeeps there (my ol' YJ needed some reassurance afterwards ;) so it would be fun to have more of the public out to vote on their favourite CJ/YJ/TJ etc etc as well as an overall People's Choice. The Christmas decorations were awesome as well so should deserve some kind of recognition, too.

So for next year, based on the numbers we saw for year one with very little publicity I think we've got a good case for much wider awareness, and I'll definitely be asking if we can get an escort to help get us through the lights as one group.

The Alberta Willys Association was also interested in having greater representation at next year's event. Unfortunately, I only stumbled across them a few days before the event so they had very little notice and already had their AGM scheduled for that same day.

The topless / windowshieldless Willys got a lot of good looks, smiles and doubletakes driving down Crowchild; it would be awesome if there were a bunch of them mixed in with all the other Jeeps.

I also wanted to do a formal close/thanks but didn't get around to getting that done either...

If anyone wants to help out with planning and coordinating next year's event that would be great. I spoke to a couple of people who had some good contacts and ideas, but the more the merrier!
