Well, now that boarder crossings and travel isn't such a challenge again, would there be any interest in doing a Rubicon trip in early summer 2023?

I think there were a few of us looking at going next year around the July August area.

I think that the widely planned fall 2019 Moab may be pretty challenging for me to make work....so spring in California is sounding like it might be an idea.

Are you guys trailering down or driving the heeps?
How long do you expect to be gone? Just going for the Rubicon trail or doing any others while down south? Maybe the Rubicon then Vegas wheeling for a few days? Definitely on my bucket list of trails.
And I assume camping overnight on the trail as well?

For me - driving down (motels along the way probably), camping on the trail. I haven't looked that close at other options down there. Fordyce? Duzy Ershim? Something else?

I would definitely be trailering old blue down and cannonballing all the way there. From what I have read the water crossing on fordice is a pretty big early spring, snorkel required. I was thinking touring around CA including Yosemite and wheeling blackrock/northern Nevada on the way back. Vegas isn't really on the way.

rush trip we went down thru idaho,spokane and by time got to bend oregan it was 41c so headed to eugene (coast) down california coast (18c) then back inland connecting at redding calif heading se , entered at loon lake and exited lake tahoe, drive back was up through reno to montana for change of scenary and cooler ...
3 days there, 3 days on trail (half that is camping and party) and 3 days back ..
bolting armour on our jeeps is good idea but the rubicon's "gotcha" is driver fatigue, it never lets up and just clawed at us all the way , from loon lake to rubicon springs it was 14+ hours of technical with not much of a break.
never took the strap but damage included: rear spring packs crack, rear shock bushings trying to exit, rear D44 weaping at cover, front D30 bolts ground off, front ubolts bend back/stretched, front bumper bent, skid dented - muffler dented - tank skid dented, small tear at body mount, blew motor mount rubber on cadillac hill
the rocks just keep coming, picking a line was usually doable but few spots there were just so many watermellon/pumpkin/couch sized rocks for 100's of feet it was challenging ...
maybe cause i was the only canuck that made it down for this run I made jamboree's offical 'sales' video which doesnt show the carnage some suffered, several came out on straps, one rumored to be failed detroit ...

i'll be going to moab for ejs 2019 so cant make it with you all so will get off this topic but hopefully motivate those thinking about it to get on this run its something you'll remember for life time :)

My plan would be mid June to mid July ish to avoid fire smoke. I would trailer down solo, run the trail(s) then fly the wife and kid down to San Fran for after the trail and tour around Yosemite, Giant Sequoia, maybe the coast etc., then fly them home and drive back. three days+ for the trail. Likely ~14 day trip total, 3 days driving on either end from Calgary.
Does anyone have any date preferences? I don't think you would want to be on the trail for July 4th but that could be used as a travel day along with July 1st.

Would be good to have a week of padding before July 4th. I've driven from Calgary to a bit past Sacramento in two days before but wouldn't recommend it. You can get 30+ degree days in May, so June's gonna be warm. 3 Days in a lifted jeep for sure.
