...the failures can be spectacular and the tires will look like crap.
Not sure if it is all the under-inflated abuse and stretching of the belts that eventually caused this but tire stood up to lot of long road trips and lot of wheeling to eventually fail on the road:

scary crap... it's probably because Nils put the tires on the Jeep in 1972 ;D ...I'm glad he's ok. the don't ware down quick but... even good tires have limits

Ay...it is true... These were abused. A lot! and they owe us nothing. We put newer tires on (from Raf)...used but newer. 1974. Should last a couple years hopefully.

Glad to hear he’s ok.
We started out that morning aired down and -19 degrees... hard on any tire.
